130 hp what does it take

Where is the fun in that? Honestly, anyone with a checking account can buy a fast bike, but it takes talent and hard work to build one yourself. My 1098 has 170 rear wheel hp but if I built my VTR up to have 130 I think I would enjoy it more. At least there would be a greater sense of satisfaction about the whole thing.

Dyno charts show about 160 RWHP for a stsock 1098. Termignoni claims +10hp with the 70mm system I have which includes an air filter and race ECU. This is supported because the guys with this setup have dyno'd at anywhere from 167-172 RWHP. I've not dyno'd mine, so this is all that I can go on.

Given the choice I've picked the VTR the past two days. Take that for whatever it's worth. If the VTR had 130hp I might not have bought the 1098 in the first place.
I probably need to sell the VTR but I'm having trouble parting with it.

+1 there are some nice bikes out there on the mkt right now for not a lot of bones including the 1098, but a nicely sorted SH is still my favorite...I passed a 1098 going down the interstate the other day and it's seemed small to me like a 600, so I'll stick with my big fat nicely sorted SH

At one time I thought about getting more power than what I got with the Yoshimura full system exhaust and stage 1 cams (~110 rwhp).
Costly to get an additional 15 rwhp with HC pistons, over size valves and porting. And it still wouldn't hang with the 1000cc IL4 bikes.
So for a fast bike I got a 'Busa (~160 rwhp). Even faster is my 2nd generation '08 'Busa (183 rwhp with the R77 full system exhaust).
The VTR will always be a blast to ride. It's the sound, feel, tractable power delivery and compact size that makes it so much fun to ride.

Anyways it doesn't really matter. I had a '00 ZX12r with some light mods that put down @170-175 to the wheel. Previous owner had it on a radar gun at 195 mph. He had some pretty sick bikes, but in the end it was the superhawk that stayed in the garage and the 12 was sold.
I was driving in my car (not for long though) next to a new 1098 the other day and was drooling over the looks and the sound. What an amazing machine...

I'm not sure! I've just been going by what others in the "community" are claiming their dyno results are. I've ridden 140rwhp bikes and this thing feels faster - knowing darn well that's a very poor way of evaluating power output.

Well guys enjoyed reading all the input and went and bought an 05 gsxr 750 for the extra speed. But do not fret, the hawk stays.Even though I like the 750,it just doesn't compare to the feel of the Hawk.

yeah, I could get a lot better 60 ft from my massaged (full Muzzy race system, K&N, jetted, ign. adv., various other lightening efforts and fuel adjuncts) '90 ZX-7, and thus a bit faster 1/4 mile ET's - but the mph was roughly equivalent as was top speed. That was a heavy bike though and the 15 years of engine progress prolly helps a bit...

My RC51 has HC pistons and mild port work, Power Commander, some intake tract mods and a full Moriwaki exhaust system. It probabably makes 130-135 at the rear wheel.
It has 16.5 Marchesini mag wheels, tuned Ohlins shock and a tuned RC51 front end.
Before the velocity stack wedged in the throttle body and put me on the ground, I was simply amazed. It was the first ride on it. As I was riding, I was thinking "this thing is perfect." It has plenty more than enough power and the chassis is incredible.
I will become a much better rider with it. It has capabilities far beyond what I can expect to achieve.
NO Rick. It's not for sale!

Nope. They are correct. A 1098 with Half Termi's + ECU will not put out 170 RWHP. It'll be more between 145-150 RWHP from what I've read.
