whos got a black windshield on their yellow hawk?

im thinking of spray painting my windshield glodd black this winter, spraying the inside to make it shiney and to keep stone from eating away at it. wondering whos done it and if you have a picture of it. i dont much like the look of the aftermarket screens so im wondering what the original looks like sprayed.

Not a yellow hawk and not a stock windscreen but it is very close. The only difference is that it doesn't have the lip on the top edge. It used to be smoked and faded to clear at the top.

I have the big - ugly ZG touring screen on mine.. But the added benefit I get from the wind blast outweighs the ugly to me..

are the LP Flushmount III front signals bolt on or did you have to do some extra wiring with them? I am thinking about those but they don't have a direct for them.

i love the look of the zg touring screen! it reminds me of the racing screens on the 916/996/998 in the 90s and early 00s.

i have a yeallow hawk with a dark tint screen. it looks good.

i used vht nightshades on my stock gsxr1000 screen and it turned out nice.

maybe the nightshades is a better option so that its still transparent a bit. but i think if you dont apply it evenly itll show quickly.

do you guys find the darker screens affect the readability of the instruments much in the day time?

Fairly direct. The colors don't match, but no extra wiring was needed.

However you do need something to hold them in place. I took some aluminum strapping (cheap at ace hardware) and cut a length of that just longer than the hole in the fairing, then drilled holes in it far enough apart for the mounting screws. Then I just used that to pinch the fairing so as to hold them in place.

I second that. Absolutely no light passes through mine and it is not a problem.

There are very dark smoked Airblade screens on Ebay for fairly cheap.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda...Q5fAccessories

For some reason they are listed for half the price of the light smoked - I bid $27 and got one. I slightly preffered the light smoked but not enough to pay twice as much. After the auction I asked if they would ship the light and the answer back was yes. I'll let you know what I think of it when it arrives

I received the new Airblade shield and they did send me the light smoked version

Put it on last night and over all I am pleased for the price I paid. I tried last year with one of the Hong kong nock offs and it was crap. The Airblade is faily thick with very little distortion. The fit was "reasonable". What I mean by that is that the OEM shield is thick enough to allow counter sunk holes for the rubber mounted nuts. The Airblade does not and so the little rubber flange sits atop the shield and creates a slight gap where the fairing lays atop the the shield.
I don't know if Puig or others counter sink the mounting holes or not so I can't compare.
It also came with a length of rubber trim/edging. Looks like it will stay on up to 100mph - not sure over that.
If anyone is interested I'll take some pics tonight.
Bottom line - for a mid line name brand that can be had off ebay for $38 including shipping, I think it was a good value and a decent improvement

Steve,

My Powerbronze (hehe I finally remembered the name) did not come with the holes countersunk. I did mine VERY carefully with a Dremel. It CAN be done!

I bought one of the ebay cheapies as well. They do not have counter-sunk holes for the rubber grommets, which made a gap.
It also started to crack a bit in the middle.
The advantage of the dark smoke is that under heavy sunlight, the sun doesn't make the instruments impossible to read.

That name sounds Chinese. I bet its the Hong Kong one with a name.
Shipping $$ sucks, and I can't comment on the long term durability of my new shield but if you go to Puig or Zero gravity or Power bronze they will start at $70 and still have shipping.
I can say I rode into work today (Brrrr..) and the screen was flawless. The rubber edging did not move and I did pop up to 100mph a couple times just to see.

Good luck on your search

All the ones on ebay are **** unless it's a zero gravity or Puig. You're going to be shelling out double what the ebay ones are though.

I've had a Chinese dark DB on for more than a year - no issues. I actually got it off a local guy in Mississauga who was selling them on GTAM.

I personally picked one up from a ebay seller in the bay area, rode with it for 1000 miles and have a crack in it now.
