Slowly making progress on the S'hawk's looks
I'm slowly making progress on the S'hawk's looks.
Couldn't have done it without all your help, tips, advice, and links.
Thanks my SuperHawk Brothers !!!
Please forgive the tank bag, tail bag, & panoramic FZ1 extended mirrors....it's my work commuter bike.
It was 81deg F on the way to work today Dec. 3rd....gotta love Texas !

Ya they are, but you can see them from the front as well as sides.
There are 8 LEDs facing the front and 2 LEDs on the side for each signal.
I thought about regular flushmounts but they can't be seen from the front very well.
(but they do look 'cleaner')
Most of my riding is commuting back & forth to work in Dallas.
I figure I need all the visibility I can get....way too many cars here!
The cages don't see you (or just ignore you)
Here's some pics of the Watsen Designs LEDs up close

I live in S. Fla so I know what you mean about making yourself visable. I found some flush mounts that are flexable so they conform to the shape of the fairing. The 3m tape isn't the best though, but you can see them from all angles. I also have turn signal mirrors and running lights in the vents in front.

It's a Mototeck undertail.
www.mototeck.com
I saw it here 1st & thought it looked great!
https://www.superhawkforum.com/viewt...59425f6c983c62
I bought it from these guys:
www.exoticsportbike.com/mototeck.htm
I've seen one on ebay for like $189 (but it was red)
The instructions are poor so I had to cut some & try the fit, then cut some more. I actually used a solder gun with a tip I flatened out to modify the stock black plastic inner fender. It melted thru the plastic and didn't make any of plastic dust to clean up. The sides I trimed with tin snips. way easier than a hack saw blade!
The instructions they sent were for a diffrent Honda motorcycle. Then didn't have any for the VTR1000!
Signals flash too fast so I'm gonna try one of these
MOTRAX FLASHIT LED TURN SIGNAL EQUALIZER
http://cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=2&L...tem=MRX_FRH1_G
I also added Watsen Design front LED signals and Clear Alternatives LED tail light with intergrated signals.
http://watsendesign.com/products/cur...INK/index.html
http://clearalternatives.com/
The Mototeck signals don't show up very well in the day light!
I had bought a black Pyramid undertail and hugger from cdyer77 and was going to paint them to match my bike. I found the good paint & supplies were going to cost almost $170 & changed my mind.
Need a black pyramid undertail and hugger??? I'll make you a heck of a deal

Dawg,
That is a great looking bike, I dig the blue... I like the turn signals in back, I need to do that, so I can put bags on.
Bet you won't be riding that to work tomorrow!! lol....unless you wanna add chains or spikes to your tires....Talk about a change in the weather, 70 to 20 in like 2 secs---- lol.....

CNIDawg,
Here is another alternative to the led's flashing too fast.
http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...gi?product=CAR
Scroll down the page until you see the resistors and the flasher. I have used their resistors before and they cure the problem. Much cheaper than anyone else. Mototeck wants $28.00 for two of these resistors, this place sells the same thing for $10.00.
Never used their flasher but it should work. Comes in 2 pin or 3 pin if either of those will fit the SH.

As with all wiring.. skip the crimp connectors or the squeeze type taps.. solder in the resister, use heat shrink tape or liquid tape to seal the connections. Remember, the load resister will get hot in use,, mount it so it will not come in contact with plastic, other wiring, or anything a very hot light bulb might be able to melt.
L.E.D. lights is a great supplier,, I’ve used their products for several projects. Fast shipping, best prices, product delivered as advertised.

Re: Slowly making progress on the S'hawk's looks
They looked up the Honda Tahitian Blue color & then priced me PPG paint, primer, & reducer.
Even with the smallest sizes I could buy it came to almost $170.
I still needed a resperator (sp?) That stuff will ruin your lungs & kill you eventually.
They suggested a HVLP (hi volume low pressure) paint gun but I was going to use my old school paint gun (wastes some paint) A HVLP gun is around $200

Yep that's it.... cause the large ovals were not avaliable in aluminum.
I'm thinking of buying connector pipes & mounting brackets to hi-mount them.
I'll never carry a passenger so I'll remove the pass peg mounts. Gotta see what the cost on pipes & brackets are.

Hey Dawg,
I have the Two Bro pipes C2 as well, what on earth do you use to polish them up, mine look very dull....Or better yet, I would like to cover the can with Carbon vinyl, do you think that would work? <---that was a way newbie question....lol.....Never noticed if the outside of the cans get very hot, or if they stay cool.....Would the vinyl melt.....should I go and have another beer before I ask such things in public?

I looked at that stuff & they said "not for hot areas" or something like that.
It might work for a while but would be a mess to clean off if it started failing.
The cooked on adheasive might discolor the aluminum.
In your picture it looks like you just need a little polish & elbow grease to get them to shine bright again.
I use some stuff called Dri-Wash Metal Polish only because I use their car polish.
It's fast & works really well on stuff that's not too oxidized. (should work fine on yours)
http://www.driwashsolutions.com/cata...products_id=32
Any metal polish woud work you just need to polish off the oxidation of the aluminum.
Semi-Chrome, Mothers metal polish or similar metal polish would work.
http://www.tunerschoice.com/xq/aspx/...qx/Product.htm
http://www.autobarn.net/mot05106.html
Heck if you are in my part of town you can use some of mine.
It doesn't take very much. (I have several to choose from )
I tried various things when restoring my '57 Crestlliner Viking Aluminum boat..
That one was really badly oxidized aluminum.
I found 3M Aluminum Restorer & Polish worked better than anything else but did not give
as bright of a shine to the AL.
Had to go over it again with different polish.
Finally got tired of polishing & left it like in the pics below
http://retrocrestliner.com/viewer_photos_page%206.htm
http://www.shopping.com/xPC-One_Step...er_Polish_18oz
I doubt your cans are that bad tho.
They prob just need a little regular metal polish & some elbow grease.
I still have some of the 3M stuff left if you want to try it.
Also some Mothers & other metal polish too.
Just give me a call or email if you want to stop by & polish them up.
Maybe 10-20 minutes of work.
