you can heat it with a blow dryer and peal it off while keeping the heat on it.
then remove any residue with alcohol,
also you can smooth the top (non cutting edge) of one of those cutters you break the sections of blade off of, and carefully cut around what you want left on (like the 996) and leave just that part on.
to do that you carefully slide the smooth part of the blade over the plastic with the cutting edge aiming forward, this cuts the decal without cutting the plastic

I dont know if a blow dryer gets hot enough but try it. If not then you need a heat gun. Run it over the decal while peeling off the sticker. You can use honda polish to remove the sticker residue. Just spray it on and let it sit a few minutes then rub off.

thanks guys, i got it. the blow dryer did the trick of getting the sticker off. and about an hour or rubbing alcohol and a whole roll of paper towels finished off the residue.
