Rear turnsignal option

Hmm...doesn't look hard to make either, especially if the guy is only charging $60 to do it, including parts....so that's what $10 in parts....
Might be a good option for people get rid of thier undertails completely...

This place has been making them for at least a couple of years: http://www.fendereliminators.net/ ~ I'm not sure if they're affiliated in any way.
But I agree with thegreep, probably easy enough to do oneself.

it's just a matter of getting the led strip measuring the distance between lights and drilling, (in a straight line of course). Then stick lights into holes and vula. Oh and probably a helping of silicone to keep dry and in place.

Re: Rear turnsignal option
That looks very cool.....where would you get the led strips?? and of course a wiring harness.....
Though I don't know if it would be bright enough, I like having people actually see my turn signals....Maybe as an add on, or accent lighting....
Found this, wonder if it would be bright enough??

That looks goofy as hell, and don't they have to be yellow? Would be a nice accessory, but I'd like to keep my originals also. I want to get one of those led taillights with the circling light pattern. Remember that one Bill?

Re: Rear turnsignal option
I've started work on these. I just went and picked up some LEDs and started soldering. I found that in series they aren't bright enough, so am working on them in parallel. Also I need to get a couple 6 ohm 50 watt load balancing resistors to get the blink speed right. I am going to try to pick those up today so I can make sure that gets the speed right.
Once I get the electrical part figured out I'll try to remember to take some pics and post them.

Hey thegreep !!
Check this out....
You don't need to wire in resistors (they get hot anyway - just like a light bulb - can you say "My plastics are melting!" ?)
Just replace your flasher with one of these like I did.
It's a timer based unit instead of resistance based like the stock unit.
Was a heck of a lot easier than wiring in all those resisters.
Had to zip tie it in the place of the stock one. (not an exact fit replacement but close)
It just plugs in where the old one was. (that IS an exact fit - no mods)
More expensive than resistors but a cleaner, easier install & stops the rapid LED turn signal flashing problem !
One unit fixes ALL your LED turn signal problems (even extra added on LED units)

Re: Rear turnsignal option
If one light bulb goes out it flashes fast to let you know you have a burned out bulb.
LEDs draw so much LESS power that it thinks a bulb is burned out.
This replacement flasher unit works on a timer instead
You WILL lose the "turn signal out of service" fast flashing function with this Motrax unit....so you will have to manually check your signals to make sure they are all working. (no big deal for me)
(But you would lose that anyway wiring in resistors)

Re: Rear turnsignal option
That's GREAT !
You will really like it.
Easy install
I was going the resistor route cause it was cheaper until I started to look for a place to mount the front turn signal resistors. Someplace that would not touch the plastic (worried about resistor heat distorting the plastic)
Found the Motrax LED flasher on line & said to myself "This is the answer! No resistor heat worries, no extra wires, and less extra parts tacked on to the motorcycle"
Removed the stock flasher, zip tied the Motrax flasher in it's place, & plugged it in. Works flawlessly. Too bad its $25 instead of about $10...then it would be the perfect part

Re: Rear turnsignal option
I say well worth the extra money. I didn't like the idea of the resistors, but I didn't know there was anything like this out there. I could make this bike one big rolling LED. . .

I am actually looking for a set of signals if you want to sell them to me... Lanust@aol.com

Re: Rear turnsignal option
Got the new no-click clicker installed last night, and the coolest thing about it is that it's silent. I am going to drill the rear peg mounts tonight, so I might be able to get the LEDs mounted and tested tonight.
To mount it I just used the stock little rubber piece and put the timer upside down. We'll see how that works out. . .

Do you want stock signals?
I have both front and rear if you need some.

Re: Rear turnsignal option
Wasn't bad. I used a piece of electrical tape on the aluminium to make sure I got them straight, then measured the holes out 3/4" apart and made marks on the tape there. Center punched to stop any bit-skating and drilled. I wish I could remember the bit size but it worked out so that they are snug but pushed through to the lip at the back of the LEDs.
Soldering up all the LEDs took the most time. I may change them out later for some of the brighter clear/orange LEDs that you can get on Ebay.

Re: Rear turnsignal option
Wow, very cool.....
don't suppose you have a step by step list of how too's, and a parts list?
You know just in case or something....I am really thinking about you in this matter...I mean let's say a comet (God forbid) hits your garage and takes out your bike, and the radiation from the blast wipes out your memories of how you completed the project....I think it would be a good idea to have all the info down, say on a site like this, for reference purposes you know....and we could watch it for you, take care of it, make sure noone stole the plans or anything....Heck I would volunteer, I am just a nice guy like that....

Re: Rear turnsignal option
I can put something together for you, in fact there is another set of rears on ebay I was concidering buying that I could make another set with and document start to finish.

That would be the cats meow....I think I want to do this to mine, looks like a cool project..

Re: Rear turnsignal option
Looks great!! Can a person in a cage see them over the pipes? Hard to tell from the angle of the pic....Looks a little dim at first, but I think that also has to do with the sun, as your tail light looks dim also.....Be cool also to have them run when you engage the turn signals, top to bottom, or bottom to top....Is there room to add a red every other one, for brake lights that only engage when brake is applied, but disengage when both turn signals and brakes are applied....I know, don't get carried away....I am sure there are endless possibilities.....
