RC51 bodywork --> superhawk ?

I have a 98 superhawk. Does anyone know if an RC51 fairing will bolt onto a superhawk frame? I assume you need both upper and lower pieces. Are they available? Expenive? I've done some snooping around on the net but couldn't find much useful info.

Of course I could get something from Mario Nava but I'm not sure I want to spend that much.

Thanks in advance.

BTW - I did a search on this forum and only found one thread that was obviously related to my question...

https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...highlight=rc51

But there was not a clear answer on if it's doable without custom brackets, etc. I'd rather not get into changing the radiators or anything like that at this point.

jbeber - thanks for posting the pic.
I wonder if it would cost less to get RC plastics, at least front fairing parts, than get one from Mario. Mario's pricing starts at 660 Euros for front fairing upper and lower (unpainted) plus 160 Euros for shipping. That's almost $900 US at current exchange rates!

thats the one...

So who's going to contact the seller to ask all the how to questions? I don't have a problem doing it, but don't want the seller to get bombarded with everyone of us...

So, who's doing it? or am i?

I want to know how to do it, what modifications where required.. that sort of thing

I got a response on the mounting process....pretty brief explanation....he just says that he had to fabricate mounting brackets, but no speacial cutting....that's it. He added that he's been down the straight at Road Atlanta (about half way through 6th gear) and the fairing was solid with no odd vibes or anything.

If you look at the pics, you'll see theres a different upper fairing stay too (where the mirrors are).

Overall, it doesn't sound too difficult--just bend 4 pieces of metal and pop some holes in them...right?

LOL, yup that's all there is to it!

Seriously, the rc uses it's ram air tube as main part of securing the upper fairing with a smaller hoop brace for the mirrors. Totally different system.

Now what about the gauges. I believe that fella did his on a trackbike and could get by with just a tach. Did he say?

On speedzilla, the RC guys had a replacement fairing thread and those $300 ebay units were rated as trash. The fiberglass pieces don't bend/give which wouldn't be that much of an issue when mounted on the bike they are intended for but could be a serious liability when modding to the VTR. They also said those units need a lot more surface prep if you care about the final paint finish.

I guess he glassed in the center air duct to skirt those issues but that kind of ruins the 51 look IMO. Very nice effort tho'.

He says street legal but I don't see a horn button (no switch assembly). Not required in Alabama? (joke)

I like how the craigslist sellers says "puke yellow" when describing the original state of his bike coverings.

I'm just not feeling the love here. They look OK but the lines and symmetry when mixed with the VTR tank and rear just don't go all that well. Glassing in or covering the ram air makes the front look HUGE too. It might just be the camera position but the fairings look too far forward and crowding the front wheel almost to the point of being dangerous. A big positive is the rads seemingly lining up perfectly.

FS on CL in Toronto

This one is really nice looking. Arctic fire, thanks for fiding it.
Owner says he bought the kit for $1500. If it's really a kit that includes all the pieces and all you have to do is make a few brackets, that's a pretty good deal. $5900 seems like a fair price for that bike. Too bad I can't swing it.

Hi all,

Concerning that Superhawk with RC51 fairings that was on ebay, I purchased said machine this afternoon. I intend to remove the RC51 fairings and brackets. The brackets are welded aluminum and the fairings are fiberglass and in ok shape. There are a few surface cracks in the front. There has been a cutout for an oval headlight. The bottom portion needs a repair, repaired. I think I'm keeping the tail, but I don't think that is a unique piece anyway. Assume you would want to prep and paint these.

I can provide detailed photos upon request. I don't have any idea of the value of these parts. Some honest advice would be appreciated.

Thanx
Chris Mitchell

I spoke with the guy in toronto, actually he is in mississauga, he said Cycle world a bike shop that closed last year put the kit on for him for $1500.

He said something about the rear seat was loose and had to be screwed down.

Its too bad the place closed or I would have found out how to do it.
