moriwaki belly pan - and question trimming CF

ordered this a looooong time ago. finally came. install easy enough but need to trim some for the pipe - just have to enlarge the hole a bit. What is the best way to trim Carbon Fiber?

I need to enlarge a hole that about 2-3 inches long by about 1/2 and inch

Or you could ignore the odd stench for awhile, let it burn through the clearcoat, and then it's just far enough away to resist the heat without burning the fibers, although it will discolor the underside slightly. As I kinda did on mine. Oops.

I actually did think about that method - was worried it might melt more than I needed though. How'd it turn out?

It can be cut with a small cutting disk... just use high revs and cool it using water...

RCVTR is an unknown quantity at this point
I love those belly pans.

We used routers with carbide bits for mast making.
I suggest a carbide cutter in a dremel. High-speed steel won't last in carbon.

We never used cooling water. Hook up a shop vac to catch the dust or it wil be everywhere.

There's maybe three or four quarter-half dollar sized "holes", in that they only burned through the clear coat on the inside, exposing the fibers but not burning any further. That was even through the heat resistant liner, which just charred off and stank worse. It did discolor the underside, but not to any noticeable extent as it sits on the bike, only if you take it off and examine the underside will you notice that.
