LED Taillight Issue - VIDEO!

Recently 3 of the 6 license plate lights started flickering non stop. it does it with the engine running or off. Any body with some LED/electrical experience have any idea if this may be fixable?

X2 Check your splices or make sure connecters are snug sometimes you can use zip ties or electrical tape to keep the connecters tighter together.

How long have you had this light?

Triple checked all 3 connections. I bought the light back on 11/07.

Just thowing this out, may be some bad soldering on the circuit board.

yeah if your wiring is good something then it is the light if you are handy open the light up and check out the soldeing inside. I hope this does not happen with my light in the future. I just installed mine.

LED's as a component doesn't fail by flickering... they outright fail, like a light...

However a bad solder on a curcuit acts like a thermal switch... contact=heat=bending=no contact=cools of=contact... and loops over and over...I have seen it happen before, typicaly on arrays of diodes where the power output is a bit more...

I'd start by resoldering all connections that are unique to that bank of LED's as they are likely to be isolated from the next 3... This as grouping them 3 & 3 seems logical when using 12v....

Not that this is entirely related, but I bought a set of 194 inverted led bulbs off Ebay for the running lights on my Hyundai Elantra. They worked well for about a month before they started strobing obnoxiously. I believe the seller blamed the heat build-up from the headlight assembly as the reason for their failure. They're tiny sealed units, so there's no way to see if they can be fixed.

Needless to say, I'm not replacing them with another set of leds, as I suspect there are a lot of low quality leds being sold out there. Don't know if that applies to motorcycle applications.

dammm I bought the same one. Hey by any chance did you have to wire in a fuse to slow the blinking down or is there already one built in?

you'll have to wire in a resistor.

You can get alot of stuff here http://www.autolumination.com/. I used to buy from this place when I did a LED swap in my dash on a previous car.

He sells LED load equalizers which is a resistor like mention above that fixes the fast flashing. They get hot from what I hear so just take that into consideration.I can't find them on his site list but they are burried in there somewhere.

I searched on google and here is what came up http://www.ledlight.com/detail.aspx?ID=39

yeah, mine started doing that, till they completely failed. The brake light/running light/turn signals work fine... but yeah... no more license plate lights. I'd write more, but i'm hung over.
