Installing Lower Fairing Question

I'm going to install my SharkSkinz lower tomorrow after work, but was wondering a couple things...

1st... Do i have to remove the existing chin guard thingy thats already on there stock? Or does the lower fit over it. I am assuming remove it, but never really confirmed..

2nd... Foam insulation stuff for the bottom of it... Is this something i could find/buy locally? or have to order? would a normal auto parts type store have something i could use for this?

thanks in advance... i'll post pics tomorrow once its on...

1st-- Yes you rmove the stock chin fairing!

2nd-- The Sharkskinz lower has a heat insulator shield adhered to the inside where the front head pipe comes closest to the shield.

If you have a used lower your installing go to Sharkskinz site and read the instructions. There is a small bracket that needs to be installed on the RH bottom to help stabilize the lower near the exhaust. Sharkskinz is great to deal with and will supply any missing or repair parts.

Hey Josh, yeah you have to remove the stock chin fairing. I PM'd you the installation page from sharkskinz when I mailed it and you've got the bracket in the box. Let me know if you have any other questions. I also recommended the heat shielding from thermo tec as I told you it worked wonders on my gsxr. Auto parts stores may carry it but if not anyone like Jegs or Summit or Ebay will have it. Post up some pics when it's done.

Be carfull its tight my pipe burnt my paint. Modified there bracket so it would lower it a little. the side without the bracket was the close side for me.

Yep...

I have the bracket, and did get it used... Its all painted and cleared ready for install now... I'll install it tomorrow after work and probably have pictures then, or the following day depending on if we still have daylight at that point...

I will go to all the auto parts stores and look for something i can use tomorrow as i REALLY want it mounted... But since its winter anyway, if i have to order it, I can always just mount it now, and add the insulator later.. We have snow, so there won't be any riding anytime this week for sure...

Here is the painted upper next to the seat cowl... Looks good...

Thanks for answering my questions... I'll do my best to grab something tomorrow, but it will DEFANATELY be on the bike by tomorrow night....

Yeah that looks sweet. Again do yourself and that nice paint job a favor and add some of that inside. I know how it is when you get all excited and can't wait but the header WILL mess the paint up and eventually burn a hole in the fiberglass but not if you add some of that heat shielding inside. Like I said I painted some of the thermo tec inside with resin and it worked like a champ.

Well i will install some before i run the bike with it... but if i end up ordering some, then i'll probably put it on the bike, and take pics... there is only three mounting points, so no big deal to take it back off. We have snow on the ground, and 20 deg weather right now, so it won't be going anywhere anytime soon...

And about selling it.. let me thing, um... NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK...

Stopped by the parts store today, and they had the Thermo Tec in a 1.5" wide, 15ft roll for $20.00... So i grabbed that, and a can of engine spray paint in blue... not the same color, but works with heat apparently.. just to cover the silver up...

Hopefully I covered enough of it...

I didn't get out of work until 6pm, stopped by the house, put the thermo tec on, sprayed some paint over it to color it, and then went bowling with the family... got home and put it on... The color is very close... I can tell a slight difference only at certain angles.. but looks very good....

I'll post pics of it tomorrow... I will take pics in the morning during daylight before leaving for work, then post once home...

best color pic i could take tonight...

Just an fyi, I did the same thing to my lower, and had some burning-smell issues. That thermo-stuff isn't rated to be extremely close to an exhaust pipe, and ended up burning. Didn't harm the CF at all, it just ended up being to close for its own comfort.
