Givi tank bag...how cool is this?
Check out what the UPS truck brought:
The Givi 489 strapless, non-magnetic tank bag.
Nothing touches the tank. It has a plastic base and sides to keep its shape. I took some close up shots from the side. There's a red lever on the side to release it. It's literally a one second job to put it on and off. It's actually surprising stable unless you're carrying lead weights.
I have three disappointing comments though-
1) I'd like the bag to slide forward another inch. It's at max adjustment to forward. It's not that big of an issue- but you won't be doing any tucking up.
2) It came with a front safety strap that I tucked into the front pocket. It really needs to be cut off.
3) It takes a 2.5mm hex wrench to install the ring on the tank. That's not included. Costs .45 cents at Ace Hardware.
Givi does not list an application for the Superhawks. Most likely due to the gas tank which is slightly raised at the gas cap. Nonetheless, it works great.
I only have one ride and it's solid. The bag expands for more room. I think it lists at 15-18 liters. The size seems good for the Superhawks. It has a phone or ipod pouch that flips out and a waterproof cover and carry strap too.
I am trying out a few different bags to see which one I like the most.
More to come.
What do you think?

Where did you pick it up (and cost if that's not too personal to ask )
And which cap did you tell them that you had to get it to fit?
It says they're bike specific but I dunno which Honda bikes use the same mounting position.
I'm looking for something to carry small things to school and I don't like having a backpack on and that bag seems like something I'd like.

Not at all.
Motorcycle superstore
Givi TankLock T489 Tank Bag - Street Bike - Motorcycle Superstore
All the Honda's listed have a 7 bolt gas cap. You need to buy the Honda plate for it too. It was like $15.
I told them I had a 2002 VFR interceptor but it doesn't matter.
I don't know about having a lot of books in there. It is fairly small for that and I don't know if it will take the weight. I would get a Nelsen-Riggs CL-130 tail bag/tank bag for that.
Nelson-Rigg CL-1030 Touring Tank/Tail Bag - Street Bike - Motorcycle Superstore
This is an experiment as I did not want another magnetic bag. I find them to be a pain for fueling and they scratch.
So, I am in untested waters here. I don't know yet if it's going to stand up to the test of time...or fly off or whatever.

How well do you suppose it would hold up to body weight? Usually when I have a tank bag I'm doing a little bit longer trip and like to "rest" my body on my tank bag every once in awhile. It seems this setup wouldn't be ideal for that....?

After a couple hundred miles with it fully loaded:
I don't think I like it that much. It's stable and super convenient but-
the thing I can't live with is it needs to slide forward about 2 inches. I can't bend over and lay on it. My back is actually too upright when I lean on it.
The gas cap on these SuperHawks is pretty far back on the tank. It takes away some mountain handling.
I think I am going to try a Nelsen-Riggs setup.

look in the motocentric bag. I tried alot of different bags and by far I was impressed with the motocentric one. Lifetime warranty and priced right.
Got it from motorcycle superstore. Went with the motocentric saddle bags too. Nice complete matching set under 200.00
The tank bag has tons of pockets and map viewer as well as ipod and hydration pack if wanted. Also can be a backpack or not. Its magnetic but im rough with mine and it hasnt scratched on bit on my tank. Doesnt move around at all and fits the tank like a glove. Still allows you to tuck a bit too.
i have the 19 model

yeah thats basically it. That one pictured there is the strap style. Mine is the magnetic style. I dont have the rear flap (or front flap, depends on how you look at it) for the strap.
Ive had if for months now and it is holding up fine. I keep the backpack strap on it for quick carry. Doesnt affect the mounting having them on it, just stuff the straps under the bag. If you go to the motocentric website they have a good video of the features and fitment.
