aftermarket lowers . . .

aftermarket lowers . . .
so, been looking at sharkskins, powerbronze, and pyramid lowers. just wondering if you guys had any info on any or all of these lowers. they easy to install? will they get damaged by the heat of the exhaust? are they all one piece? etc..
are there any other lowers you'd suggest? pics would be great!
preciate any tips or advice!

Im in the same boat as you.... did the research too...
Im a full fairing type person... so Im going with the Sharkskinz lower. To me... it follows the lines much better for a 'factory' look as the others look like an 'add-on'
my two cents...

i feel if you want full fairings on the bike you need to go with mario nova's body work.. it's the only one i've seen that brings the lower closer to the front wheel. the rest of them just make it look like thr vtr has serious overbite.....

I would LOVE to get Mario's upper and lower... but I fear the price would drive my wife into a divorce... lol
The Sharkskinz look better than all the rest I hae seen... with exception to Mario's fairings of course...

Re: aftermarket lowers . . .
mario nava's bodywork is SICK!!!! don't think santa can afford it though.
is it me or are the sharkskinz almost identical to the powerbronze ones?
the pyramid is beginning to grow on me, doesn't cover the engine as much though, but i think the lines match, IMO, whereas the powerbronze covers a lot more/so does the sharkskinz. . . just not too impressed with how they mate with the upper, the upper has sharp edges while the sharkskinz or powerbronze have too many curves. . . i'm being real picky now
so installation is a straight up bolt on, no issues with hot headers?
thanks for the replies thus far fellas. . .

I had a sharkskinz lower and hated the way it looked on the bike. The lower doesnt match the body lines of the hawk and just looks "stuck on".
I got a moriwaki lower thats all 1 piece that has the oil containment which alor of race organizations require and look 1000x better. It doesnt cover as much of the engine, but it not about the full fairing look, if that what your looking for, buy a RC-51.

Chris,
Can you post a few pics of the left and right sides if you got em?
Where did you get the Moriwaki lower?
thanks
I guess I need to see all the lowers on a SH first before I finalize my decision.....

Re: aftermarket lowers . . .
The Mario stuff is $535. This includes to lower and upper. You cannot buy seperate as the lower will not fit a factory upper. This combo looks the best and 500 is not that much considering a sharkskins upper is like 352 and then you have to buy the lower which will put the price almost the same. As soon as I come up with the cash I'll by it......

mario's a smart one, he could've easily made really nice lowers to mate with stock uppers (and done a better job than sharkskinz, pyramid, etc) . . . now he's got people pinned for both!!
now is that price for fibreglass bodywork? all the one's i've seen are all carbon fibre i think.
but dang do they look sweet!!!

Re: aftermarket lowers . . .
Hi guys. Just an observation, but a member on the uk/oz forum who has a powerbronze lower noticed it melting from close proximity to exhausts.
I have a pyramid lower which actually rests on the pipes but is fine. Possibly cos its made of fibreglass rather than plastic ?
Downside is that a couple of mounting points have slight starring/ cracking, and the edge is a bit too close to the sidestand and is easy to catch/ break when putting the stand down.
Thought i'd share this and maybe help you make your minds up ?
Stu.

this is exactly the kind of info i was looking for. had a good feeling that heat would be an issue. do you think the pyramid, actually resting on the pipes, over time or maybe after long hours sitting in traffic would eventually melt where it touches the pipe? anyone have this problem?
about starring/cracking, would it help if you put washers (or add extra) on either side, maybe soft rubber/plastic ones?

Re: aftermarket lowers . . .
Sorry, when i said starring, etc i should also have said that you have to look real close to see it !
It does have thin rubber washers on the mounts, i cant remember but i believe there are spacers the right thickness to stop you crushing the GRP. You would have to maybe make these slightly longer and possibly use thicker washers ?
Will have a look when i wash the bike later.
This lower has been on for two years and the only other problem is the stone chips on the front, which you'd get with any lower.
Also, make sure your exhaust clamp is rotated so it does not touch the lower. Obvious i know, but i did it and didnt notice for a few days !!!!!

Re: aftermarket lowers . . .
uhmm, same term as fibreglass? thats what the pyramids are made off right? rather than plastic (or GRP?) which the powerbronze ones are made off?
can't get pyramids in the stock teal blue colour, think i might go for black and get a teal blue honda sticker along the bottom to "coordinate" , think that'll look aight!

Re: aftermarket lowers . . .
I have been looking at a lower/belly pan too and found the Geelong Carbon Craft looks good. Is made of Carbon fibre and looks the best of the lot (IMO) http://www.geelongcarboncraft.com.au/
(I have overlayed this from another bike onto mine... )

Re: aftermarket lowers . . .
Mine is a powerbronze....bought it while I was stationed in England. It's a 2 piece unit that is plastic that looks carbon....as does my powerbronze hugger.
It has on opening there you can see the lower section of the hesder....I think sharkskinz are totally enclosed. Or is that Two Brothers?? Most of the sharkskinz/2 bros I've seen have heat damage in that area....even when sheilding is used. That was my main reason for going with the Powerbronze.
Mike
PS ....I'd post a pic but have no clue as how to.....LOL
