900RR Brace with Hugger???

For anyone that has done the 900RR brace mod on the swingarm, will a rear hugger still fit? Do I have to modify one for a Superhawk or should I buy one for a 900RR?

TIA.

I figured a 900rr hugger should work. If you use the earlier style 92-95 brace like I did huggers are harder to come by. I've seen more for the later 96-99 style. They look exactly the same in pictures but are sold everywhere separately for the different years so I'm guessing the holes are spaced different or something? I have yet to spend $100+ on a new one just to find out and have yet to see a cheap used one I can try with. There's currently one for each style brace on ebay for $125 and another for the later style for $80.

Another option could be to install the brace on the underside of the swingarm, ala THIS bike. Then I could continue to use the hugger I have. I'll have to fit it up and make sure the clearances are there.

Does the stock swing arm flex enough to make this matter?

Hey Greg believe me I played with the brace above and below for a long time trying to decide which I liked better. I did like the look below too, like a TLR. But I think it was right up against the exhaust and you'd probably have to grind the back of the cut-off 900rr brace down a bit and angle it down a little more like the custom brace in that picture to give some more room. Or you could do like the jmc arm and put one above AND below.

I thought about the JMC, and that one guy sent his in for modification, but I'm a cheap bastard and will probably just go with welding it to the top. I'll find either a cheap SH hugger to hack up or try to make one from a 900RR fit up. Remember I have the single sided exhaust too, so clearance might not be an issue. However, I don't want to limit myself on exhaust options either, and most likely will go back to dual exhaust soon.

Well when you say will it fit straight on...it's the proper width. You need to carefully cut it off the 900rr swingarm and have it tig welded to your superhawk swingarm. I used the earlier 92-95 style brace. I did grind it down a little for better fit to make the welder's job easier, and I also tapped it in and ground it down a little in front of the tire for a little extra clearance.

Yeah it's really not that bad, you just cut off the brace and weld it to your stock arm.

let me clear this up just once more

i want to get a fireblade complete swingarm

take off from the bike my firestorm swingarm

put on to my firestorm the complete fireblade swingarm

and i would modify - not cut any braces off and weld to the firestorm one - the fireblade swingarm so it fits

Okay...I've never heard of anyone doing that and it seems like ALOT more work to get something that basically looks the same...Why do you want the 900rr swingarm? I could see if you were going to do like Mrbillet did and modded an sp2 swingarm to fit. If you just cut the brace off the 900rr swingarm and weld it to your stocker it seems like a hell of a lot less work. Unless you want to use a 954 or 1000rr arm? Seems like a waste of time if your using a 92-99 arm to spend all that time fabricating to make the entire arm fit...

see, i think if they are 99% the same apart from the shock linkage mount points, cutting and welding them is a lot easier than cutting off the entire brace and welding that on

i will look in to this some more i think

Honestly... I dont think that they are close enough to be able to get the 900RR swing arm to work. The mounting points are different as the superhawks mounts to the engine and if I am not mistaken, the CBR's mounts to the frame. Karlosvtr... if you do get it to work, make sure you document it up as you will probably be the first guy to have done it!

that i am familiar with how they mount.

im literally not fussed on how much they may need modifying. the bottom of the shock mounts in the same way,

i think it could be modified.

either way im going to mod something now ive got the buzz
