VTR of the Month June 2012

Nice bikes. Rob, amazing work - I don't think it matter what directions mods take a bike - its nice craftsmanship. And it has mikuni flatside carbs! I personally can not imagine how you can ride it but I've never tried apehangers either. Its cool either way.

i've been following robs build in the uk forum, great workmanship buddy, i think its great to see someone push the bounderies, i'd also like to say well done to gaggenau for putting together a very nice vtr, all the entries have there merits, and regardless of taste or lack of, depending on your point of view.
keep up the good work, i hope to be entering this competion myself in the next couple of months.....

I like the engineering, and he's very clearly thought through the solutions- it's not just nailed together from the parts bin.
Would I want to ride it? Maybe just the once, but not for long.
Kudos to the man for doing his own thing, though.
And yes, it's still a Firestorm or Superhawk; I can't see how you could decide exactly what mods or how many you could make and it then becomes something else.
It'll still say Firestorm on the log book.

Looking great on the bike, the ape hangers don't look as bad now Superb craftsmanship Rob! I would ride it here just to get these Harley guy's Jealous at a real bike, less vibration, reliable, light weight (compared to a Harley) and doe's not leak oil
PS. I would still go with a straight bar...

yeh, you're right, sorry.
after all, i'll only be doing about 20,000 miles a year on it, in all weathers, including Club runs all over europe......

rob`s bike is great build
very clean and smart
the chopper bikes are not ment to be comfortable, easy steering, good stopping or fast accelerating.....they are just choppers and are made to be ones....for the looks or just for the build itself and to be one of a kind
I have a friend that builds bike and i know how hard it is to make things from scrach. I myself turned a 750 katana into a fighter which was not even close to the things that rob has done on the hawk, but i can asure you it wasn`t easy.
Putting gillies on the bike is not a big deal if you have the money to buy them, but to make a custom frame is.

But at the end of the day its not a vtr it wasnt upgraded it was created im saying nothing negative about what rob has done it looks great but it is not a vtr and also not my cup of tea...

Do you have a build thread or something to look through?
Also, way to make an interesting VTROTM!

Looks like the first and second are Varadero, and the third is what is left of a VTR after being upgraded with a flux capacitor. So, the last pic is odd?
Pretty sure an XL 1000V does not qualify as a VTR.
What about if someone had done a build like Rob, but used a Varadero engine and still claimed it was from a VTR? How would we know? And would we care?

rob........you've created a masterpiece. Awesome! i'd like to ride that monster.
Way back when, I did have ape hangers on a 750 Norton for a while(a little shorter and tilted a little further back) and had no problem with handling or comfort but had to take em off because riders following me complained of the smell.
Looks pretty light. Did you happen to weigh it? Nice job on the build.

When I look at the VTR its the clutch cover , then frame that lets me know where the sickle started from. Theirs no doubt that I see a VTR in robs sled.
Then when he posts the pic of him on it ,,,, Kewl. You can argue all ya want.... I say its VTR and lets say we now have to include a pic riding said
entry....Helmet-less ....lol Rob , great bike man, You look the part too..
