My next project
Well, I don't have it yet. Man I've been patient for a long time. 2 years in September since I tossed mine in the ditch.
I finally got the remodel paid for and getting some money in the bank, so I decided it was time for "the talk". So I said, "I'm going to get a bike." It didn't go well at first, I must say. It was the first time in a long time that a discussion of motorcycles was brought into the present. Like I said, it didn't go well a first. Then it got worse. I told her I wasn't asking for permission, just letting her know my intentions and asking her to stand back and let me do it. Hoo boy. I figured I might as well stir the S#^! up and then see where it ends up when the dust clears. And you know what? It came out good.
I had to compromise and wait another year (she was asking for 3 and I said "no f$%in way"). When I offered a year, and we worked it out, everything smoothed out, we continued on our hike, went to the hot springs and out to dinner, and I'm gonna have a bike in my garage! I don't think it will even get knocked over when I'm not around, although I may safety wire it to the ceiling in my garage.
So I just bought a new set of Marchesini forged mags for my new track bike project. My buddy Dean wasn't quite ready to part with his bike, but I'm buying his leathers, helmet and gloves. He figures he'll be ready to sell next year, so that's perfect. His bike is a really good starting point. It has a full Moriwaki exhaust, Moriwaki suspension link, Ohlins shock and reworked forks. I'm going to put '00-'01 forks on it. And I'll have to buy some race glass. I think I'll collect engine bits over the summer.
I don't need more HP, but I need to build something. I'm just going to put Carillo rods in and lighen the crank and blueprint everything. JE pistons tend to fit loose, so I'm going to get a set of Bob's special recipe pistons made and have them coated.
That's at least half the fun for me. Then I'll have a bike for a few track days a year and it will be something really special (to me at least). It sounds like a lot of money, but it's way cheaper than any car project, fits in my garage, and I feel like Marylin, with my skirt all blown up. I'll keep you all posted on progress.

Doug, it looks like you're out of motorcycles! You just got that VFR finished! I never got to hear that V4 with those pipes on it.
Man I wish Honda would build another full-on V4 sportbike.
I heard a rumor that they have 2 versions of an RC61 superbike. One a V4-1000 and the other a V2-1200 built and in testing. I think it depends on how the Superbike rules go which one they put in to production.
Ok, I need to get to work. But I can't think about anything else!

It wasn't until I started taking the V-Twin idea seriously that the fire really got going again.

It's important to clean the cylinders very well. After cleaning with solvent, I wash the block with soap and water. I then wipe the bores dry with a clean shop paper towel, then immediately wipe it down with WD40. Oil does not displace water. Instead it seals water on the surface. The cylinders will still rust when coated with oil. I keep using a clean towel and WD40 until there is no sign of dirt on the whilte towel. Prior to assembly, I use a clean towel and clean paint thinner to get the WD40 out. I then wipe the cylinders with very thin coat of oil (almost none). I oil the ring lands on the pistons and put some oil on the piston skirts.

Maybe if I stick some broom handles through the axle holes, I can figure out how to ride them.

Dan Kyle did a weight comparison on RC51.org.
He has the Marchesini front forged mag at 7.0 lbs vs.10.5 for the stock front without rotors.
The Marchesini rear is listed at 13.0 lbs, vs. 19.0 for the rear, with rotors and cush drives.
He doesn't do an inertia comparison, but that's where the biggest improvement is. The difference in acceleration, braking, turn-in etc. will be much greater than the simple weight difference.

Nice! Pilot Powers, Braking/Galfer waves, Mori High pipes, CF radiator gills, Sargent seat (?), CRG levers, tinted windscreen, let's assume Power Commander, yellow kevlar brake lines... I see a BVH sticker on the forks. Are they worked? How about the shock? And so now, I gotta ask....how much?

It has an Ohlins shock with high and low speed compressoin damping adujustment. Bob H did the forks. Also a Mori shock link, brand new DID ERV2 chain and sprockets, Scotts steering damper.
I'm paying a lot, but it is set up exactly how I want it. These things sell at about $6k, but the shock is $1100, exhaust $1200. Also it only has 5k miles on the motor I built. Paying $7k. I've known the bike since new, played on the street and track with it. Some sentimental value there, too.

So you're buying back your own work. Now there's a concept. That's really cool. We all want to see the pictures when you get possession.
Wifey probably has been preparing for this so she might not be entirely surprised. You can leave out the pictures of you tied to a tree with her flogging you! Just don't tell her the price and emphasize the "work of art" thing!
