Trimming the upper triple clamp

Just plain tired of how crappy the upper clamp is without handle bars going through the mounts so I started cutting. I will have to finish cutting tomorrow. Here is a teaser.

Nice triple clamp!

Kreem the tank, you'll never know how much you'll really appreciate it, because it won't leak every other month in a new spot...

I'm a fan of the electrode rust removal too for 30+ yr old tanks that need love.

I like the way it turned out. I am considering filling the holes then redrilling them for the idiot lights. It would be nice if you could find a green, red, orange and blue light that would be the same bulb as the ones already for the idiot lights. (like this)

I used POR15 on my mustang.... i thought it was more of a rust sealer and preventative rather than a fuel sealer

I found an 83 cb1000 locally for a grand that i just emailed the dude about. If that one doesnt go through, i have a buddy that just moved to atlanta, so i can have him help me out. also have a buddy in tampa that can be on the lookout. I appreciate the info!

Seat pad done!

Here is a shot of the newly padded seat, which is quite comfy, surprisingly.

I glued then weighted the foam down so it would hold the shape of the pad.

I may try and make a cover myself still, a $30 experiment to save a couple hundred.

Sweet, they sure make a great project. Fun to build and ride, custom but not a chopper. Decently sporty, I can't wait to ride this thing. If you ever get a pic of his bike post it up I am interested.

More on the cowl

So I needed to find a place to hide the battery. I found a makita 12v battery pack from a drill I used. It 2ah so it should run the headlight and LED tail light for a while without running out of juice. Enough for a good amount of time to kick the bike over. I also needed to mount the circuit board for the tail light so I made a hole in the cowl underside inserted the battery pack insulated the circuit board. Then I built a cover made a gasket and bolted everything back together.

Moved the gauge

So I moved the gauge lower, I had to move a few things though, the original two brake line setup is now a one line setup, but the tail light switch is now gone so I will need to figure out a replacement for that. I made a new mount that I welded to the triple so it looks more factory.

I also moved the tank a half in up. (I know CG and all but its cool)

Pearl white, grey stripe, white tach face with silver Honda wing. Black rims, stainless spokes, polished hubs with black accents. Just my $.02

Truthfully, I keep flip flopping on the stripe color every other day. Silver... black... silver ... thanks for you opinion sounds pretty close to what I like too.

English wheel custom front fender and rear hugger, polished. Everything below the body work either black or polished, no chrome. Black powder coat frame, Arkont rims and fork legs, drilled rotor, Gawwwd I'm obsessing over this thing. Nice work.

Colored lights oh my!

Thanks for the compliments everyone, so I continued on my upper triple quest for perfection. I stopped by at a plastics retailer and asked for some color samples, and that made it so I was able to do all this for free, hurray!

Well the beauty of the setup is the tack uses the same two pins to mount so I can, and will switch back and forth depending on my mood and occasion. If I ride by myself I will probably keep the speedo on and in groups or on the track just the tack. I agree though tack would appear as more dedicated race bike. I just don't need speeding tickets in town around here they can be pretty nit picky.

Question on your battery choice.. What charging ramifications does a battery pack like that have? Can you just hook it up to the R/R and be good? I know the actual chargers for them have cut-offs based on time and or charge level.

Actually on the cheap one's they only have a temp cutoff... And usually that one is in the battery... I'd just check on the charger what charge voltage it usues... If it's 14.4 it's good to go... other than that and you need a few resistors to limit maximum voltage...

the charger is 14.4v so I am good to go. Thanks Tweety.

nothing like paying you for a job well done:

Updates

Been busy again with "work" so I haven't had as much time to mess around as I have the last few weeks. Anyways just thought I would share some extra photo's, and get some advice and opinions. Enjoy.

Here are what the indicator lights look like when lit. I am posting these because the pic above doesn't show much.

Exhausted?

Also here I mocked up some cans for a visual aide of what I am considering for the can's. Cardboard tube painted silver. I want to keep the lines of the bike simple. What do you think about the length and placement or anything else related? Thanks.

Blue for High Beam, Green for Neutral, then blinkers? If so why one high and one low? Or is one of those a oil pressure light?

Exhaust looks good, though I would consider either a single exhaust on just the right, or point the tips more back and less out to the sides if you keep them both. (I have always thought exhaust tips pointing sideways looks silly on dual exhausts, though I understand others have different opinions)

Yes its hard to tell in the pic, but oil is red, upper right is for signals both sides.

I may consider a single sided exhaust, as far as the tips I can mess with having those any direction. I just taped them up real quick I also think more to the back would look better. What do you think about the diameter of the can, too little too much just right?
