thanks,Drew im getting real anxious to get it done.
i have a bad habit of starting a project and not finishing, tend to get bored
with long projects.
hope that doesnt happen with this.
its starting to look good.
guess i may have a little attention deficit problem.
taking breaks once in a while seems to help.
was hoping to be ready for this riding season, but due to some financial problems
it will not be a priority.
next project is getting the wheels and engine covers coated.

No way! You're almost all the way done. I mean the hard parts like fitting the SA and reinstalling the motor, etc. The details will take some time but that's the majority of the investment at this point.

when work is done i will just hit modded areas with rustolem spray.
once i get engine back in frame i can start electrics.
Hey Greg,thanks for pep talk.
have decided to take a small break and start electrics while i wait for
the funds to start flowing again.
also have a carb mod i want to experiment with.
will share that once i get it together and working.

You better remember that I have $600 in this project so you better finish it!
I know what you mean about a rugged winter. The entire year of '07 was a huge curveball for us. Rain, rain, rain! Couldn't get jack done! We're off to a better year now so take your time - keep low - and this, too, shall pass!
Keep up the good work. It's looking great, Mike, so keep on keepin' on!

It's been a good while - I bought your red center/polished lip wheels a looooong time ago. You're in the Baltimore area right?
The ones that had 800 miles on the Dunlops?
You remember?
Well I have worked on the project for my Superhawk but they have not gone out for powdercoat yet. That's all they need at this point.
I have new bearings on the shelf.
The old bearings got jerked out after I found a blind bearing puller at tooldiscounter.com. $100 tool and works really good!
People always remark about my memory - mostly names of customers that I remember. I see them in the grocery store or whatever. Can almost always speak their name - I've always been like that.

With the RC51 fork, you may want to drop the nose and put the clip-ons above the triple clamp. I used 929 or 954 clip-ons for about the same bar position and it was comfortable to me.
Steering may be heavy with the front sitting up high, assuming that is an RC51 fork. I went with ~stock ride height in the front and +10-12 mm in the rear.
I know what you mean about needing to take a break. If it starts feeling like work, I walk away.

with the swingarm mods the bike sits a good bit higher in back.
thats why i modded the subframe to bring the seat back to a reasonable height.
im guessing about a 22-23 degree rake as compared to 24-25 stock.
dont think the front sits any higher,rc forks are a bit shorter, not alot maybe an inch or so.
clipons will stay where they are,get me out of the wind blast...better fuel milage
still have some detail work to do,like finish suspension plates.
cant wait to start on exhaust, its gonna sound awesome.

I think I'm going to keep the polished lip on the front and replace the red with a wet-look black. I'm running modified rotors in front and I think the black will look good behind them. The polished lip will accent the rotor finish (which is a little dirty at this point).
I'm not sure about the rear. I bought a 900rr six-spoke from Marm so I'm leaning toward that for the rear.
I'm also undecided as color. A friend is suggesting a graphic that looks like squirming/color as you roll through a parking lot. Or a color that alternates (a blinking fashion) as it rolls through the swingarm at lower speeds.
I still kinda like the corkscrew thing. Both have been used in Nascar on some cars so you can kind of get the idea from that.
There are some good (and several of them) powder coat shops here. I won't put a thousand dollar paint job on $500 wheels. Aftermarket wheels are way too cool for that. I'll post pictures when this all shakes out.
Again good luck with the build and keep us up to date!

Man, you have been through a lot. I remember when you scored your new front end parts I thought to myself "Well, there went the money from the wheels." I had no idea this was the grand scheme of things. It all looks really good. I know you all have had a horrible winter up there so hurry up and get ready to ride! It's coming soon!

Nuhawk, actually the winter here in maryland was very mild this year.
but yeah i need to get this done big time.
but i wont rush it i want it perfect when i roll it out for the 1st time.
once i get the wheels coated and tires mounted i should be able to really start moving.

Hawxter,
Great project so far. Dig the direction you are going. I got a question for you. I did the single rad conversion on mine recently. Still in the midst of it actually. I used a stock right side rad and welded up the crossover bung. Next step is to swing it across the front. Only problem is the fan is too large to fit around the front head.
What rad are you using and what are your thoughts for fans? Keep at it bud. Look forward to seeing what happens with yours next.
