BUT, before this turns into political B.S., I am self employed. Been in the construction industry since I was knee high to a grass hopper. I grew up in the business with my Dad. With the economy the way its been, I haven't built a new house in over 5 years! I'm a jack of all trades, so keeping busy isn't to hard, but the money just isn't there anymore. Doing a lot of work, for not much pay now days. I'm starting to think about doing some other line of work. We'll see what this next year holds for me. Hell, if anything, I can toss my GPS, phone, and maps on the ground, hop on my Super Hawk and just...get lost.

Most people put these and otherwise handicapped individuals, esp adult aged, in homes/institutions because of the long term burden of care, but some of us don't feel comfortable with the majority of these settings and this leaves the caring parent with very few acceptable options.
Definitely puts a hurtin on your freedom and independence, and kicks the **** out of your riding time for sure, but at these times you only need to remind yourself of what you would want your loved ones to do if the situation were reversed and you were the vulnerable one.
Unfortunately, this type of empathy is in short supply these days and indeed seems antithetical to the all too common selfish, spoiled, sociopaths which seem to be flooding our society making it even more difficult for caring people to secure love-oriented caretakers and supporters.
Tough, but not without its rewards, but you already know this.

I am also an ordained pastor, play bass for the church band and father of 5 kids 8-16 years old. By the end of the year we will be in New Zealand co pastoring a church plant in Tauranga for the next 8+ years. And yes, my Hawk is going with me.

My hat is off to our military, fire and law enforcement brethren. They are all dangerous and often thankless professions. Challenges in our personal lives make such occupations that much more stressful. Again, keep the faith.
I'm an ex-aeronautical engineer (Convair alum, advanced alloys & composite development - Space Shuttle, HEO-B, MX MIRV Deployment Module, Tomahawk SLCM & GLCM, 757/767 Engine Strut, etc)
Now a forensic & design architectural engineer; one of the worlds highest paid, not highly paid; i.e., examples of where I hang, literally

Whose dick got into your butt? Glad you understand the nature of the politics in Wisconsin and are so willing to pass judgement with all your knowledge on someone that you know so little about. You can promptly eat the dick that is apparently in your ****.

Actually, your right. that was an ******* comment. I did not intend to come off like that. although i do support walkers actions, I'd never wish anyone lose their job and all the headaches that follow..... sorry for the overly critical comment Stump, I wasn't thinking how that could come off...

Pretty harsh comments, I take it you are pro-union?
#207
I hope you mean appropriate response to idiotic personal attack against an individual. If so, yes, thanks. As for pro union, I am in one and now given the choice on whether to be in one even with those who are not getting the same contract as those in the union, I choose the union.

Self employed as a home remodel and repair contractor. Yes, margins are small these days.
Good news is that my job cannot be out sourced, or my contract altered or nullified.

Well to try and get this back on topic..... For the last 5 years I've been running my own bike repair business.
Though now I'm heading back to SoCal to get back into High Vacuum work and Non-Destructive testing so my bike stuff can go back to being a hobby not a day to day grind....
