WTF! wiring gone bad!

I just recently bought my superchicken and the previous owner has been through the wiring (i noticed just short of getting it home) Not a big deal really! So i went for a few laps around town the other night and noticed my bike acting funny when stoping and re-starting! Some of the wires that run to my CDI box were chillin up against my pos battery terminal, they got hot and shorted out! Wires melted together and everything, so today i repaired the wires with wire shrink and a heat gun, went to start the bike and the battery was almost dead it seemed like! It made some type of wining sound. I plugged up my battery tender and left it afew hours while at work, got home put the battery in and it did the same thing! so i got a charger and jumped it, rode around to see if the battery would charge and no, still bad! Any ideas???? I'm no mechanic but i think it's a number of things. Bad batt, and R/R, or possibly just the stator! Please help!!!!!

Check the charge rate of the reg/rec. It may be at fault.

Your R/R most likely popped from the shock.
As stated before, they are sensitive to some simple stuff.
Spark your battery cable and you can kiss it goodbye in most cases.
Stators are tougher than nails and it takes a hellacious short to fry one.

If stator tests good then its the R/R , unless its just wired wrong or something stupid.
Stator test plan here www.motovoltage.com/tech.htm

Hey smitty, if the wires shorted on each other (mine did a similar thing) it could have fried the black box (ignition control unit). Sounds like you might have more problems too. But hey easy on the explanation points, its a family forum!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you've managed to fry your loom, I have a spare, complete wiring loom.

Just holler if you need it.

Paul.
