Would you be insulted?

Would you be insulted?
So, I have my bike up for sale right now. This morning a guy called me about it. He went on and on about how he just sold his mega-super-awesome-special **** mobile (Repsol CBR 1k) because it was too nice to really ride. He's looking for a (indirect quote here), 'bike like mine that he won't feel bad about if he goes sliding off into the dirt.' So basically he's saying my bike is a POS that he wouldn't feel bad trashing. Great. Thanks, dude...
I'm feeling insulted. It's not that I have a huge sentimental attachment to it, but I do like it. I don't need to sell it. I just don't ride it so I thought I would. I've put less than 3k miles on it in 2-1/2 years. Maybe I'll just start commuting on it again.

I'd say there are about as many super hawks on the road as there are repsol cbr's. Both are rare to see where I live anyway. On that premise alone the guy sounds like a douche bag. Who would buy a super hawk as a beater bike? He probably lacks the skills to ride that 1000 like it deserves to be ridden and needs a more user friendly bike but his ego makes him talk smack about the hawk. I wouldn't feel too bad just don;t bargain with him if he low ***** you.

If he starts to try to low ball, then tell him u will just put it back to stock and I'll help out and trade u all fairings and tank. lol. jk.. dont take any lower than you got posted .id buy it if i had the money, and tell the douche to **** off. You got a good lookin bike.

Consider the source before you take umbrage. This world is filled to overflowing with people who will NEVER possess tact.
My question is; did you quote a price before the ineptness or after. When dealing with obvious social morons, I always apply a little PITA factor to the price quoted.

I don't know, i didn't talk to the guy, but I can kind of see where he's coming from. If I had a brand new MV (maybe not a CBR but you get the idea) I wouldn't want to ride it. I love my bike because it's already scratched, it's covered with bugs, it has character. It looks like I ride it, not like it belongs in a living room.
I don't know what his attitude was, but that's my take on it...

Couple different ways to deal with a douchbag. Way number 1 - get insulted and tell the DB to get a life or a clue.
Way number 2 - say, "this is a great bike for how you feel about it. You should really buy it because you NEED a bike you don't have to worry about."
If I really wanted to sell it, I'd probably go with #2, even if deep down I wanted to go with number 1.
Don't let a douche bag ruin your day.

When I'm looking to sell a bike (or anything else), I'm just looking to get my price, not for someone to stroke my ego. Tell the guy you don't give a **** what he used to own, why he sold it or why he might buy your bike. Tell him you don't give a **** if he pushes it off a cliff tomorrow as long as he pays cash today. Business is business. Don't waste your time getting "insulted".
#9
Yeah, cash is king, I suppose. Maybe it's not so much that I was insulted by the implication that the bike is a POS, but it seemed like too familiar of a path he was heading down. The last couple of times I've listed the bike I've had someone come and offer a lot less than what I'm asking. For much less I'd rather keep it, or start buying plastic and parting the cabon stuff.

as far as this buyer, cash does talk but I wouldn't cut him any favors or breaks on the price...that's for sure.
people can buy a bike/car for whatever motivates them, but why tell the owner that you're buying it from that you're going to go out and beat the **** out of their vehicle? This will likely wind up you not getting to buy the vehicle and it makes you sound like a d!ck.....JMHO

with all the carbon fiber bits your bike is more rare than a repsol bike. You can't find that bodywork anywhere. So I don't see how his arguement is valid. But like others have said business is business. I would however say if it means this much to you, sell it to a person who cares about that stuff and will appreciate it. Then it won't bother you, you are the owner and can pick, if you want, who gets it.

Keep it!
Almost sold mine a few years ago. Same circumstances as you. I didn't need to sell and just not riding it much.
A potential buyer looked at it was kinda putting the VTR down a little. "It's not an I4" "I really want to ride hard" kinda stuff. I was firm on my price and fortunately He decided not to buy it.
Then the riding bug hit me again a couple years later. I'm so thankful I didn't sell because I would have had to settle for a 'used' Hawk (really no interest in any other bikes in my price range) instead of my original owner, low mileage, pristine baby.
I say keep it! Glad I did!

Yeah, I think most folks replying in this thread don't know this isn't your everyday Supa'hawk. This was a carbon fiber shop's show bike back when the model came out. It's WAY, way more rare than a OEM repsol cbr.

VTR sale insult
There are a lot of riders out there who never rode V-twins and have no ideas about the torque of S-hawk a**kicking of I-4. Or may be he just another Starbuck posser just dont mind those people. I also encountered a Harley V-Rod rider asking me: when i gona grow up and trade in for the REAL BIKE? I live in a town with 80% riders of Harleys , so we both headed hwy55 i showed him that how VTR can do 75mph/35mph limit turn enter hwy ramp

I'm with DiDaytona and Death Cattle. Tell him to go find some rat bike to trash. He probably couldn't handle the Repsol CBR and in that case would wrap the SH around a road barrier in short order. Of course, the SH would be the only loss in that case...on the other hand, then we would have some new parts being sold off..hmmmm.

Carbotech Superhawk VTR1000
???
I so wanted that bike when it went up for sale.. I was all set to fly to AZ, but just could not swing the extra few days of leave.. I had just taken 30, and signed in to my new unit.
I love my low/no milage 98... and at the price I paid I did ok.. But The CarboTech bike was my first choice and first love of SuperHawks...
ummmm, How much??????

I don't get insulted anymore. The one thing I've come to learn is that every individual is an individual and all have opinions. There is nothing one or all people can do about this. If he were to come with cash in hand and buy it then say whatever you want. If he they are wasting your time then ignore it, hang up, walk away, whatever.
Remember, If you have 10 bucks to your name a person in Beverly Hills will think your trash but a person in a village in Kenya will think your a king. It's all relative.

Thank you runrowdy.I have been thinking of selling mine too. But after reading your post I have come to my senses and The Rocket as my wife likes to call it will stick around a while longer. As for selling your bike--don't compromise yourself or your bike to douche bags like that. Most of us know what the bike was all about when we bought one. Be patient and the right buyer will come along. Now if I could only find a deal on a Triumph Thruxton.
I think the "how old are you ?" thread a while back confirmed my feelings. I though I would be one of the old guys being in my 40's. I was really surprised how many SuperHawk riders where in their 50'-60's. Hopefully someday I'll be one of them riding my "classic, I remember those, blast from the past" original owner VTR!
Back on topic.... No I wouldn't be insulted. If I am at the point of selling I am done with whatever it is and have lost all interest in it. I wonder whatever happened to my Baby Blue '91 Firebird? Man I loved that car!

Wow... I'm 31 and put VFR bars on! Well... part of that was because 99% of the riding I've done has been 2-up.
It is the affectionately known 'Carbochicken' (the Carbotech bike).
It's tempting to keep it for those odd times when I do ride it. It is a lot of fun. I really just don't ride it as much as it should be ridden. My wife and I had this image of being able to ride the twisties and sort of tour with it. It's probably fine for that with just one person, but with two it's like a torture device over ~150 miles. It also seems like wherever we go we're bringing something with us, so it doesn't work well for that (unless it fits under the seat).
We recently bought a V-strom 1k (hey, at least it's still a V-twin!) and that thing works great for what we want to do. It's even a little bit dirt capable so we can get off the beaten path a bit to camp or explore. The ergonomics are similar to dirtbikes too. I've been riding dirtbikes for a lot of years so it's nice to have that familiarity.
