Why do some bikes have a lower fairing?

Why do some bikes have a lower fairing?

I'm new to SuperHawks and currently shopping for one. My question is why do I see some with a lower fairing? Is this certain years or options, can you take it off? I'm just curious, thanks.

It comes stock with a small 'chin' fairing. the full lowers you see are after market.

pyramid makes the coolest aftermarket fairing out there, about $325.00 its a must have for a HAWK
