Bloody phones !
I have been spanners get on friends bikes a lot lately and was feeling guilty !
Since I fitted my new exhaust system things haven't seemed right.
So it got the better of me today and I tore into the carbs , nothing too major.
Sync, TPS was at I can't believe it 830 so I checked it several times and managed to get it to 537 .
Resynched the carbs again and did an idle drop as per the manual.
"Bloody Hell " Took it for a spirited run around my village and what a difference. Pulls really hard now and sounds better. I think in my haste to ride the bike with the new exhaust I rushed the last sync and didn't check the TPS and did a hasty mixture adjustment.
From now on I will take my time , I must stop working on other bikes and spend some time on the old girl.
Going for a ride with some mates later so I will have a chance to test my handy work !

Congrats, your in the cult! Er, I mean brotherhood. Or club. Whatever. You are one of us. Don't listen to anyone, I'm not that crazy.
Best of miles to you on the new bike. Looks nice and is the fastest color.

Welcome mate,
Best colour, nice pipes and hangers, what wheels are those ?
Be warned these bikes have a habit of getting under your skin because they respond to fettling so well.
Now get out there and ride and tell us what you think.

Will be a little while before it is ridden. Just ordered a service manual this morning.
Will get all new fluids with oil, coolant, brake and clutch, and forks. Needs new chain and sprockets. Needs a plastic chain slider as the original crumbled. 20 year old bike, Ron Ayers has the bits. Carbs have a decel pop, going to order new rubber boots while I order new brake piston seals and other little stuff.
I put about a thousand miles on this bike 10 years ago, buddy was getting rid of it and asked me if I wanted it.
Sure do!

I have a 99 ZRX 1100 and do all my own wrenching. Don't have ability to bore cylinders and major stuff like that, but I'm used to working on bikes a few years old like these.
Did a ZX14 USD set of forks on my ZRX, will think about a 04-05 CBR 1000 front end later. Getting the important stuff like brakes gone through is first priority.
Looking forward to all the details I'll get from here.

PT,
If you do a USD on your VTR have a look at the 05 ZX10 forks. Mikstr put me onto them and they are a revelation. There are threads on here!
Yesterday I road my bike out to a mates place and went paddle boarding ( Almost as much fun as riding the VTR ) I enjoyed the bike and really appreciated the changes that I have made to her over a 6 year period with a lot of help from this forum.
It has taken me a long time to get the VTR to a good place, yesterday just served to remind me of how much fun these bikes are under full throttle riding the torque wave between corners in 3rd and 4th gear.
So I guess you could say that I had fun on what is a 120 K ride . I have done 7000ks on my bike in the last 4 months and now have nearly 60,000ks on it and am hoping to get big miles out of it like some other members on here.
A couple of good things you can do is fit the rear shock shim and lower the front forks 10mm( Helps it tip into corners quicker ) And make sure if you have a standard back shock, back the preload right off . This helps the shock action to operate better as by fitting the shim and lowering the forks you have changed the steering geometry.
Another must is check all the swingarm , shock linkage and shock bearings and regrease them . They have a habit of seizing if not serviced. I could keep going but won't .
Let us know your thoughts when you get to ride it , or if you already have post them up.
Cheers

Went for a 400Klm ride with a few mates. Funny thing is that I have worked on every bike that was on the ride, an 05 749 Duc, an 03 Monster S4 and an 01 Guzzi California Special,Sport. I have ridden all of these bikes and still prefer the VTR.
Whilst on the ride I was reminded about how lucky we are here in Oz with our riding conditions by my mate on the S4, we can ride all year round over a wide variety of roads. Some are painful like the highways infested with Police just looking to ping you for the slightest demeanor and quiet country roads in between little towns with no Police.
That was the ride today, out in the bush and exploring the limits of the VTR with a couple of like minded mates enjoying their bikes. $2.00 was regularly seen on one particularly nice section and a good time was had by all.
Summer is almost over where I am however, I will do this ride again in the near future and post some pics as Photobucket are now offering some realistic packages !
Cheers

Took the fairing and tank off, airbox off. Carbs off tomorrow or Friday. PAIR valve stuff to go. Have APE manual cam chain tensioners to install with the Cometec gaskets.
Going to see what's in the carbs, I think they are stock.
Plugging away.

Thanks Floyd. Plan on doing that.
Ordered a set of block off plates today. Will install them when I take the valve covers off while installing the manual CCTs. Might as well check valves while I'm in there.
The same type forum, ZRXOA has been huge help in the last 10 years. Met a ton of great folks, wealth of valuable info. I'm glad I don't have to re-invent the wheel. I did a front end swap a few years ago putting a set of ZX14 forks and brakes on my ZRX. Love the USD forks, will probably put a set on this SH.
Thanks for the info and encouragement guys!

I finally replaced my stock turn signals with something a little more modern and streamlined. These aren't the smallest units, but I think they are among the brightest, I used a LED compatible switcher unit rather than squeezing big resistors into the bike.
