I've been having some fun with my bike over the last few days. I have installed a Cyclops LED headlight, and for good measure I decided to switch all of the other lights to LED as well (just because I can). I purchased some replacement LED bulbs for the stop/tail from eBay, and also sourced some triangular flushmount front indicators from there as well. If you offer me "free international shipping" I'm all over it! I had to wire in a LED-specific flasher unit as well.
I took a first run with the new lights last night, and aside from spending a bit of time on the headlight aim I'm very impressed. The LED light is awesome, the cut-off on dip seems to be OK with on-coming traffic even though there looks to be a fair amount of spill above the cutoff. On high beam the light is not quite as focussed as I'd like (but lots brighter than stock in any case) so I will try out the spacers that came in the kit, which move the emitters closer to the reflector and should provide more focus.
I also replaced the stock rebound valves in the forks with Gold Valves; my suspicion is that the stock HMAS valve body is quite restrictive so I am expecting the GV's to give a more supple ride on big bumps; initial indications seem to support this (but it is hard to be sure at night...).
While I had the tools out, I also pulled the carbs out to gain access to the water hose at the back of the front head, which had become a little incontinent. A bit more tension on the clamp seems to have sorted it out. For good measure I then re-balanced the carbs, easy enough as I have extended vacuum pipes under the seat for this very purpose!

If I knew how to post a pic from my phone, I would but the M/C is just the stock cbr600f4i unit that corresponds with the calipers.
Seems I can't figure out how to post a pic from my home PC either.....

Hit 16,000 miles this weekend riding 421 the Snake in TN. Measured my rear cylinder valve clearances and they were perfect. Hope to get to the front cylinder tonight. Do I need to pull the fairing off to get at the front valve cover, or just move the oil cooler up out of the way?
Also hit about 3,200 miles on my rear Roadsmart II - it looks like it has at least 500 miles left in it, maybe more - I'll be thrilled to get almost 4,000 miles out of a rear tire!

I finally got a clear and sunny day after 3 weeks of rain. Took the Hawk out around the county. Never got very warm, only in the low 40s. I tried to stay on sunny, well traveled (read boring) roads as there are a lots of wet leaves and branches on the ground from a recent windstorm. Still it was nice to put some more miles on the bike. I worry letting it sit too long without running it periodically.

Bike wouldn't start even after new battery and R/R upgraded to MOFSET, pulled the starter relay to check, can even hear something rattling around when I shake it
Since it is torn down, will take the time to do MCCT, Coil on cap mod, rejet carbs according to Hawk's thread, check valve clearances @ 52,000 miles, install aluminum machined velocity stacks, new spark plugs, Jack Flash mixture screws and brass carb choke piece, new oil/filter along with magnetic oil pan drain bolt to pull metal shavings
Tank was missing the vent line when I took it off, I haven't had it off yet so that's from the previous owner. There was a drain line, just not a line connected to the vent
Any good source on suitable 35850-MR5-007 replacements? The Caltric branded one seems to be reversed..
Ranges from ~$7 all the way into the ~$80s
Edit: Bought a $10 one on eBay that had the same imprint pattern as the one I pulled off, be wary like I said above there are ones that are reversed, hopefully that comes soon

Yeah Spokes, we want picto story please.
How many miles can one expect to travel once the light comes on steady?
Two weeks ago I was caught 15 miles out with light on. I went from blasting 90mph upright to crouched low at 45mph. Must have looked ridiculous , but I made it.

Was looking for a fuel gauge idea for my trail bike. Always worried on the trail Im going to run out. Found out how to make a sight gauge. Stupidly simple.
So decided to try it on my VTR first. So wont like the idea but I do.
So you cut one of the fuel lines to the carbs. Insert a T joint for a third outlet. Run clear tube from the joint clear of any hot bits through the fairing to go up by the clocks. I run it over the clocks and back down the other side of the fairing. I put a restriction in the end to slow down the motion of it.
It really works a treat. When I get more time I will drain the tank to get a low point. It only works when the engine is running as thats when the petcock is open. If the bike falls over it can only leak what is in the pipe.

The fuel moves way to fast. So have put a restriction in the hose by the T piece with a 2mm hole to slow the flow.
Also fitted a baffle in the RH pipe. Just need to take some edge off the noise.

Flat black for all these engine pieces, same as the frame and swingarm.
The only thing gloss black will be the wheels.
This will get rid of the weird goldish color and continue the red/black scheme.
