Hit the starter and the battery ate its gun. 12 --> 0.00 volts in one loud click

Well that fuggin' sucks... I'd at least do the unbolty/rebolty-thing on the front end. Forks, triples, axle, etc. if that's where she took the blast.

I took the time to finally install my Kreiger CCT's... they went on pretty damn easy. What scares me is the final adjustment on the front tensioner when the time comes. Seems like a b!tc# to get to with that plumbing all up next to it. I'm thinking to attack it from above with the tank raised??

What I did was take off rear valve cover and watched what was happening when I adjusted the cct and then just imagined it when I did the front. Pretty much nailed it.

Had to get a loaner phone so rode to the mall that opened earliest, stopped at buddy's bike repair shop to see if my new slip-ons are too loud for the cop's new DB meter. Verdict = baffles in legal, baffles out VERY illegal. Good to get back on the bike, it's been a long winter.....

The bike is going back together slowly today. Having received no advice about my carb setup, I set the TPS to 503ohms and stabbed 'em back in. The bike starts, idles like before but seems more rev-happy. The plugs looked fine and didn't have very many miles so they went back in also.
Now I'm building up the fairings and putting her back together. Might even have some pics soon.

Did you post up a thread asking your questions or did you bury them in another thread?

Just asking as I never saw any set up questions Name: idunno.gif

Yeah, buried in Marquezs thread. Basically my carbs are bone stock 175/45--178/45, I was the first person in those carbs since the nine year old with a machine gun to his head first assembled them. I have slip-on exhaust with no baffles, PAIR is in place, oem style air filter. The plugs looked fine, maybe even a little rich, back one being richer of course.
My question being 1) how do the plugs look that way? Wouldn't the bike be leaned out from the exhaust? 2) Wouldn't your carb set-up richen an already slightly rich set-up? I have had no driveability issues that I can tell so I just put them back. I have no current way to check the a/f on account of the wierd screw. Mileage has been high 30s to low 40s. Any observations appreciated.

IMHO these bikes are fine up top but are lean on the bottom and low mid-range.

That is why my set up doesn't mess with the mains just pilots and adjusting the needles.

Today you ask,, well today i moved it out of the garage so I can finish parting a DRZ400SM, and then a shiny object caught my eye.. My HID Trailtech helmet lights that have been sitting on the spares shelf for three years.. Hmmmm, wonder what those would look like mounted to the VTR...... I see a project in the works.

Got to ride the bike around the hood today, it runs pretty well. That means almost all my parts arrived and I got the bike back together. The new plastics look sweet of course. I think I'll dive into the carbs and do the 8541 tune in the near future because my life is not complicated enough right now. May do some pics soon.

So today I rode it. After a winter of building the garage and another couple months of doing all those things i meant to do to the bike I am a happy camper.
Vfr bars - oh yeah no more blue fingers.
carbs- finally have a decent set up again- thank you 8541hawk for the carb thread- it is awesome. The torque is back and the top end pulls hard enough to float the front when i made a pass.
Gotta admit i am getting tired of that loud *** exhaust though- guess that gets added to the wish list. Right after a suspension upgrade.
And it was an awesome day to do the first run of year over the north cascade pass, really couldnt have been better, snow on the sides but the roads were clean and dry.
Traffic was minimal except for other bikes -groups ughhh.
This is what the hawk was built for and she still does it well.

Went for a ride to test out my newly refurbished bike. The bike runs and rides great after car sync and tps adjustment. Like a new bike.
Unfortunately we lost a rider this time out. We had just split up into three groups to head our seperate ways. Ashton was leading a group to Blanco when he left the road for no discernable reason. He wasn't wearing gear and broke his neck on impact, he then landed in a barbed wire fence and sliced open his neck. There was no blood since he was already dead. He was a Harley rider but had no problems riding with us "Jap bikers". I was in another group and got the news later. He always rode next to me in the group because he trusted me. R.I.P. Ashton Edwards age 30
Let's hope next post will be more cheery
