What can you tell me from the way this sounds...

So, I got back to work on my SH today. It will start, fairly quickly, but only with the choke out. Once running, it bogs with any additional gas. It will stay running as long as the choke is out. BUT, the choke wants to close itself (hence the vice grip in the video). I made a video...

Can any of you experts to me where to start on this. I presume rebuilding the carbs, but is that the right direction?

TIA for any advice.

BTW - the airbox is open (hence the noise).

And that would be my first reason why it doesn't want to run.

Also how much fuel is in the tank as the RLOD is on?

The choke issue could either be the friction **** needs to be set a little tighter or the cables have an issue (dirty or the center tube is pulled apart.

+1

Sort the choke out so it works as intended.

Put the lid back on airbox along with the filter

Alright, I will throw the air filter back on and try this again.

Just had about the dirtiest filter I have ever seen. But, you are right, probably better dirty than open.

The VTR is very sensitive to airbox/filter changes. So best get that sorted with a new filter, so you can carry on giving the bike a good service.

Removed restrictions in the Honda Superhawk (Firestorm) Service Manual PDF and was able to run it through OCR so the manual is now text searchable - Enjoy

Nice! Thanks. Here it is with the filter in... I have a new one ordered, and thought it would be here before the weekend, but no dice. I just couldn't stand to see it sitting there, wanting to be ridden.

Definitely better . I warmed it up a bit this time. It is able to climb, but I wouldn't call it willing to do so. Does it sound fairly normal otherwise? I think everything is stock (or so I was told, we will see when I get into the carbs).

Sounds okay. Have tried tightening the choke cabe using the placcy tightner on the bracket. While you delving in with the air filter out, did you get the airbox off to see if the choke cable/s is correctly connected into the carbs. As often a plastic adapter between the choke cables and carbs can go brittle and break.

Hope you've got manual CCTs on order and while you've got it apart it'd be a good opportunity to fit a vacuum takeoff connector & some hose to the front cylinder for easy carb balancing.

Glad to hear it sounds fairly normal. I know it is not in tune, the PO told me it had sat for most of the past 6 - 8 weeks. As far as I know the CCT has not been so, that that is definitely on my first round of repairs after I get her running well. I am just trying to make a priority list.
