Went to the drag strip

Hey,

finally got the bike out to the 1/4 mile strip. the best I could get was an 11.46 @ 122. my 60' was a 1.98. this is with a stock bike. What kind of times have you guys been able to get. I hope that breaking into the 10s would be a reasonable wish. Thanks

Jon

That's a pretty nice time, especially if it's the first time you've had it out. How much experience do you have on a dragstrip with a bike? I've seen times range anywhere from 10.80 something from back in '97 from motorcycle.com to mid elevens in magazines. Talk to denmah he's had his bikes to the track a bunch of times and turns some pretty good times too.

11.4 isn't bad at all for a first time. I've gone a bunch on my stock bike and the best I could get was 11.21.

this was my second time out on the hawk...i've been alot before but with a cbr. i'm having alot of trouble being able to slip the clutch at higher rpm launch points. the clutch seems like an all or nothing kind of deal.

I always pick peak torque for my launch point. I think for the stock VTR it's right at 6000 rpm. Anything much above that didn't really work for me.

Good trap speed! Shows how much grunt a 'Hawk has. We all know how hard they are to launch; grabby clutch and wheelie over backwards!
