To wave, or not to wave. That is the question.

I wave at other riders but not ones without helmets. If a helmetless rider waves to me with enough notice that I can react, I knock on my helmet instead of waving back to say "knucklehead.."

I wave to everyone, if you choose not to wave back I really don't care....I'm on my bike having an obviously better ride than you.

I find that the vast majority of riders here in Western Canada wave no matter what you are on. Everyone has the "I'm too cool for you " riders but like I said above....if they don't wave who cares!!!

I am Thomas.
Here is what I notice.
Rarely in town does anyone wave.
Goldwing riders DON'T wave here...maybe they are too comfy to realize they're on bikes too.

let's hope they're not waving because of that 3 letter word in the middle of your name. And let's hope it doesn't create any negative preconceptions here as well. Of course, if you do post stupid ****, at least you'll have an excuse. The devil..........., i mean, Tweety made me do it.

Initiation over. Welcome to the forum. Start a thread, intro yourself, tell us about your bike.

so flo rider here. when i first got my cruiser (honda vtx1300) no one really waved back so i gave up initiating and decided to just return a wave. i noticed that the ones that would mostly wave would be on the sport touring bikes. but i will certainly return a wave to anyone. i even returned a scooter wave...i saw the wave before i saw what he was on lol. i went from being a little embarassed to feeling slightly preturbed and finally thought, 'hey if he's got the cahones to wave at a real bike then what the heck!!'

just got a hawk and haven't been able to ride it much but i thought i'd give some input as a cruiser rider

So i did a test today. I put on 118 miles. At one point i was following 3 harleys and other harleys didn't even wave at them. so i started the test.

With me waving first.....
Sport Bikes waved at 15 and got 14 waves
Crusiers Waved at 40 and got 2 waves back
Scooters Waved at 5 and got 5 waves and huge smiles back, was down by the beach going slow, easy to see them

Waiting for a wave
Passed 22 crusiers, not one waved
passes 8 sport bikes and got 6 waves
passes 3 scotters and no waves

I have noticed that around here people don't like to wave at anyone. Not even someone on the same style bike. at one point on my way back to the house i waved at a guy on a V-rod and he flipped me off

So here's the funny thing - I'm out on my Buell, I wave...only street bikes wave back. I'm out on my VTR, I wave - now street bikes ignore me, only crotch rockets wave back. All cruiser ignore me no matter which bike I ride....
Same person (me) different bike, different image. Go figure! Can't wait to buy a HD! LOL

I wave to all bikes with two exceptions:
1. when it's not safe for me
2. when it's not safe for the other guy

One interesting observation here in Kentucky: I see more Harley riders initiating waves than I do Asian cruisers. Sorta makes you wonder.

I've been riding for almost 30 years and I've always been on rice burners....I wave at all bikers....some wave back.....some don't......some may not see ya wave at them and some wouldn't wave even if they did, but I bet they would accept some help from ya if they were broke down on the side of the road!
If they don't wave back....I can assure you that it doesn't ruin my day.....I'm just glad to be alive and on my scooter!!

Here in Sydney, Australia we nod.. A small nod of the head as your passing by and the other person nods back... I would say 9/10 people nod back, sometime they look so so focused at the road ahead they miss it. Maybe a bit to focused on 1 thing if you ask me. So the other day i was in my car behind a KLR650 and a guy in a H-D rode passed and gave him the nod. I nod no matter what.
