Useable tank capacity and miles after the RLOD on a '98?
I ran it a few miles past the red light yesterday, and was able to cram 3.3 gallons into it (126 miles). This was literally filled to the brim, I would have had to top it off with a teaspoon.
So let's say it took 3.2 gallons above the red light, how many gallons are left after the red light comes on? Most bikes give you about 50 miles, but I doubt that's the case here.

Ok, so tank size is 4.2 gallons for all years, and anyone that says 3.5 gallons is either an idiot, or living in the UK?
Sounds like every bit of his reserve was usable. 0.7 gallons at 40 mpg is another 28 miles. That puts the max range at 150 miles on a good day.
Does the light start blinking at some point, or is that just for the newer bikes with the fuel guage?

Just filled mine today, the light was on. Took 3.25 gallons to fill. Had 137 miles on that tank. I've never run more than about 20-25 miles with the light on. My mileage seems to vary alot and I don't like to push my bike to a gas station in the 90 degree heat.

Well ****... ha... So, I've had my 98 superhawk for about a year now. I've never had the rlod come on for 2 reasons.
1. The original Fuel sending unit died.
2. The fuel sending unit I bought off ebay was the wrong year (digital
speedo).
That being said, I figured I'd get about 100 miles to the tank right? Well.. I always thought the gas tank was 3.5 gallons. Everytime I went to the gas station to fill up, I always stopped at the high 2's. Mostly 2.6 or so. Wow. I totally could have gone another 40 miles or so. Ahh... good times... Which brings me on to my next post.

On another note, I got 45 mpg yesterday cruising the backroads. (I was taking it easy so my g/f could keep up, and because I'm a wuss.)
