Two Left Thumbs

Keeping in mind that the limit of my mechanical abilities consist of being able to tell the difference between a flat head and philips screwdriver...can anyone tell me 1) if there would even be $800 worth of parts on this, and 2) would ~$2200 and a (real) mechanic be able to turn this into a real SH?

Thanks

Yes, the motor and frame (with title) are worth $800 alone. I think $1500 would get it back on the road and working nicely for you if you learned how to do some things yourself.

That is assuming the engine is solid and runs as stated.

That is assuming the owner is telling the truth about it being a runner. I'd want to hear it first. Maybe it's just me but do those forks look tweaked? Could be a great deal.

I would want to see the bike "in the flesh", and I would take a 10 foot pole with me when I went to look at it!

Your mechanical skills being as you describe, I think you would be ahead of the game to take the $3000.00 and just buy a decent running, complete bike.

My $.02

That looks like a **** load of work to me, especially if you are not that confident on the mechanical side of things. if you have $3000, I'm sure you could find something way better than this pile of scrap. Get a complete bike that runs & just needs some finishing touches, then start too customize to your liking. That's my .2cents

I am in the process of fixing up an $1100 wreck which I bought due to the fact that it had a brand new Ohlins shock. Wrecks are filled with surprises like warped brake rotors and missing parts. If you are not into the mechanics, i would pass. JB

If you have time, this would be a fun project to start learning something especially if all you want to do is to get it to run and not necessarily return it to stock.

That rear plastic alone is worth $800! The exost would be a bonus. Seriously, replacing external parts is relatively easy even for the inexperienced. Lots of top notch help available here on the forum, just make sure you do a search before you ask questions!!!

I would probably just part it out. There are well over 800 in parts there. 2 brothers carbon exhaust is a big ticket item. Clear title frame(if it has a clear title) would sell on ebay. Motor if it runs could get you several hundred. A picture says a thousand words but looking at it yourself says alot more.

he has yet to respond to questions regarding title which indicates i should probably pass on this one. the whole deal seems shady regardless of the value of individual parts - not really how i want to start out. thanks for all the input.

My rule of thumb for giving advice to friends that arent that mechanicly inclined... If you can't ride it home, buy another bike...
