Superhawk at altitude

I live in Los Angeles and am planning on riding to Vegas this weekend for a visit. My Dad has a carb'd bike and he said to be careful of the altitude. I have a DynoJet jet kit, Factory ignition advance, Flo Commander, 2Bros high-mounts, 43t rear sprocket. Is it okay to take? I don't know exactly how far above sea level the ride will take me. What concerns should I have? Thanks in advance. I'll be taking the 210 to the 15 for those that are in town.

I have had mine at 6500 ft coming from sea level. It definitely did not behave the same at altitude. It might be a little sluggish and she might want to run a little rich at idle.
I don't think it is really an issue, unless you want to do a track day or tear up the local roads.

i'm a couple hundred feet above sea level & when i ride up to the mountain i can tell it's a little lean ( pop's on deceleration ). i've never heard of anybody having problems. if you move there i'd adjust it.

on hot summer days if i ride up that high i'll step up 1 grade in fuel ( keep the pre-detonation to a minimum )

humm, maybe i got it backwards, but i was told and always beleived the higher the altitude the less fuel you needed and the bike would naturally richer due to less air.

You should get richer when you go up and leaner when yuo go down.

That is a fact. You have it right. If you're just going up for a trip then don't worry about it. At the SHOG Rally we were up at about 5400 ft and all our bikes were rich, so much that my idle lowered from 1100 to barely 800. Steve had problems starting his once at that elevation.

I live at 6500 ft and when I go down in elev yes it gets leaner and then I should worry maybe. but going up is fine no harm in running rich.

I took my Hawk up in the Adirondacks (realize these mountains aren't as high as those on the Left Coast..) w/ no issues. A neat little sideliner though, my buddie's '02 VFR 800 ran like sh_t at the higher elevations. We figured out that the Power Commander he had in his bike was a straight map program, and did not compensate for elevation changes. As soon as we got over and down the mountains, his bike cleaned up and ran fine. Figured you guys would be interested in that one....
