Angry Smashed frame sliders with 10km/h drop!

Hi people,

I'm new to the forum and to the VTR world - which isn't quiet as big down here in New Zealand. Anyway, what a great resource this forum is - cheers.

Sorry to do another frame slider post but I'm a little puzzeled - I smashed my frame sliders with a really low speed drop - probably only 10km/h - umm something like 6mph. Dropped her on a newly sealed corner with some loose stones. Purchased the bike recently and it had some bracket mounted frame sliders on it but I'm not sure what brand yet. Anyway, both the aluminium bracket and slider broke and they seemed well made. Bike is a 2003 so they can't be terribly old - have other people had experiences breaking these with such trivial drops? Anyway, few repairs to do now including a reasonably costly right hand engine case :-(

Thinking I might make up a guard frame like I saw somewhere on here.

Cheers peps.

Welcome!

Sorry to hear about your sliders coming apart. That really sucks. When you figure out what brand they were let us know. Or put up some pictures if you can.

Sorry to hear about the quality issues.

BTW, VTR is not that big here either.

I've dropped mine a couple times with T-Rex sliders that I got from Ebay. The bracket bent, but nothing broke. The Ebay seller was willing to replace the brackets for only $10 too, but I just got a new set since the slider was scraped up.

Thanks for the welcome people.

I've photographed the unbroken frame slider - does anyone recognise this? I can't find a brand name anywhere

Thanks

Those almost look like Skykings. They make a lot of daytona parts.

My buddy and i made a custom engine protection cage... modeled after the freestyle ingenuity cages. it works awesome. i'll post some pics later if i can.

i used to have LSL frame sliders until i dumped it. the sliders didn't hold up as well as i expected them to.... especially since they cost $150

Hi Alpar,

Sounds like a good idea to me - the other advantage I can see is I think the frame would slide better if the bike hit the grass - quiet a lot of my riding is on small country roads. If you could post any pics I'd be really greatful.

The sliders do look similar to the skykings I agree, but Skyking don't have the vtr listed on their website. Think I may try get hold of the old owner just out of curiousity.

Cheers!
