SH Evil Knievel street-tracker in MotorCyclist
Anybody else see it? (March issue, page 48) Flat bars, XR-750 tailsection, modded tank, custom paint w/ the Evil Knievel "1" numberplates, and stubby exhaust cans... Its pretty rad, although I'm not sure about the banana seat tailsection...
Anyhow, my question is - this guy dropped the forks an inch in the triples to raise the front end. Seems like a quick and easy mod for a more comfortable riding position. Anybody done this, or have any input as to how it would affect the riding position/comfort, as well as the stability and handling of the bike?

Well, the first thing you would have to consider is that the clip-ons would loose their mounting point if you lower the forks in the triples. So if you use a rise bar, super bike bar, or dirt bike bar of sorts, then you will already have a more comfortable riding position. You would then sacrifice handling by raising the front end. I would not call this a quick and easy mod for a more comfortable riding position. It would likely make the bike more stable but less "crisp", but the Hawk is already stable so I don't think it would be better in any way.
