Rear undertail

Okay, I have about reached my limit of looking at the big piece of **** plastic over the back tire. How do you remove it and what can you replace it with to still hold the plate/light?

Cutting it off

The guy who owned my bike ahead of me did exactly that, cut it down. Not sure of the exact procedure, but here are a couple of pics to help you out.

I cut mine down to 4" below the reflector, the height of the license plate, using a Dremel. But you could also scribe a line with a straight edge and use a utility knife to score along the line until it breaks off. I ditched the ugly license plate light then cut out an opening in the bottom of the taillight and glued a piece of translucent white plastic over the opening. It looks great, and it's legal.

Having said that, I saw a GSXr this evening while my wife and I were out for a short ride, and he had the rear fender completely removed with the license plate way under at the front of the rear wheel. I've seen this many times before, but not with a strip of BLUE LEDs about 1 foot long running up the center of the undertail. That is a guaranteed pull over here in CA.

I've got a Mototeck undertail for sale if you want it. PM me.

The link shows what the undertail looks like installed if you haven't seen it already.

I don't think you will have much luck with this as all the undertails require you to keep parts of the old plastic, mainly the battery box... So mostly people don't take them of as much as cut them apart...

If you use the plate as a template it looks really good. Just place it as high up on the flat part as you can go and then draw a line with a grease pencil etc... and then shape the sides how you want them I did mine with curved corners and then level with the ground.

I took my dremell, and cut it off about an inch or so below the lock and drilled new holes for the tag. Then I took my dremell and cut a section out of the bottom side of the tail light and epoxied a clear piece of plastic in place to make a tag light.

I purchased turn signals off ebay that bolted to the tag

go to airtech or shark skinz and buy either the rc51 or the cbr race tail for it. then put LED brake and turn signals on it, mount your plate flat up under it and it cuts out that ugly tail light section. here is a pic of my cbr, you can see the tail i am running on it.
