"Parking" Light Curiosity
I'm at work and the thought just came to me...what is the point of a parking light if you can't turn it on while parked?
...or is there a secret button I've been missing?

I think in Europe headlights can be switched off completely, at least on some models. Europeans also have that little "passing" switch that lets you flick your high beams using a trigger button. Gixxers have this and Victorys too.

Yeah probably, my friend's 916 had the little trigger for flickering your headlights to let the mere mortals know to move over

Typically, this light is activated by turning the ignition lock an extra counter-clockwise position past the fork lock position. It will leave the tail and low-voltage front light on so that your bike is not pancaked on the side of the road when you return from buying that quart of milk or six-pack.

They are standard on Beemers, too. My GS headlight doesn't even come on when you switch on the ignition. The little front marker light comes on instead. The headlight only lights up once the engine is running.
