OVerLOOKED Maint Item......
I dont know about you guys but i am a maint nut , always chking bolts cables engine,tires,bearings etc... Since there are no do overs at 150 and no oops or well i ll do better next time.Just a fatality. Being that i live in SD and sturgis is going on right now
i get daily reports of dead Bikers due to flat tire,trown chain, cagers etc... mostly people with huge ultra glides pullin trailers that loose a back tire since they cant really see it under all the saddlebags chrome etc .. Ok now on to my point last night i was going throu my bike
new brake fluid all around and clutch fluid ,tire psi chk , wipe down or bugs chgk for cracks
loose bolts nuts etc, lube chain chk for binding,electrical chk,forks,bearing wheels,controls,
hell you name it i chk it but the one thing i never give much thought to is when was the last time you pulled your THROTTLE TUBE and cleaned the clipon and re alliped grease and shot some oil down the cable tubes ???? i have not done this since i got the bike about 1 to 1.5 yrs ago did it when i put on new grips and that was it .. after looking at it and thinking about the push pull system being the only reason i have not killed my self.
i pondered what if i fall off or what have you at 1/4 1/2 throttle ??? and it sticks open
i could potentally damage the bike more or kil a pedestrian or make any situation
alot worse if my throttle sticks even a little bit and just to let ya know full ope n only went
half way closed when i let off it ... so its al re greased and tubes lubed now it snaps shut
when i let go .As it should be sorry about the big long winded story but i was just wondering how many other ppl have forgoten/neglected this VERY important piece of our beloved machines....and dont ever leave the house without gear and at least chking the tire psi (it could save ya life!!!)...safe and happy ridin to all even the darn squids....

Ill have to check that out. I have a long list I need to get too. It's been such a nice summer. I'm always riding....Tires, chain lube, oil, brake and clutch fluid, is all I've managed to do.

I became a believer back in the day. As I friend an I walked through a motorcycle salvage yard looking for cheap parts we noticed that the majority of the wrecked bikes had some really obvious faults. Bald tires, worn out sprocket/chain sets , kinked cables, unfortunate modifications etc. Didn't take me being a rocket scientist to figure out that hitting the details might keep me out of the hospital.
Every ride gets a preflight first. Every oil change includes a front to back check and every fight with the wife gets me several hours of garage time where my cables and pivot points all get fresh lube. (My S'hawk is a decade old now and it handles like a fresh, showroom unit.)
I recommend using lubricant for throttle cables, seat cable and chain from DuPont, called Teflon Lube. Great for the health of the o-rings, doesn't attract and hold road grit and my chain/sprocket set show no wear in the 15K since new.
