OMG Becky, look at that Hawk!!

Look what followed me home this past Saturday!!

So @Storm_Chaser offered up his beloved cream puff after my comment in the Oregon for sale thread. I’ve always deeply loved the blue color and how could I say no….
Here’s the pics he shared.

8,511 miles. I agreed on his ask of $4200. There are tons of extras that went with the bike. Biggest hitters in those were a DMr F4i shock (still new) and Jamie’s fork springs w/ spacers. I’ll have to take some pics after my wife cools down a little. This was done without consent/communication. Boys and girls, I’m old enough to know better but this Hawk was like dangling extremely good drugs in front of an addict. That’s all I can say.

So I think I may own one of the cleanest, un-molested Superhawks out there! First order of business is APE Pro’s. I won’t ride it till that happens. Call me chicken, I’m ok w/ that. Lol!

Tis lesser a burden to ask for a spouses forgiveness, than it is to win her permission to trailer home yet another project.

-Thomas Jefferson

Can't think a better cargo for a Tacoma than a Tahitian blue Superhawk, but then i am biased.

Congratulations, she's beautiful.

Very very nice, congrats. The rearward facing while driving picture of yet another Superhawk in either the bed of a truck or on a trailer has become a classic over the years for me.

Super clean beauty you have there. 😍
I guess the phrase 'happy wife happy life' doesn't always apply when a beauty like this is tantalizing the wallet to go on a diet. 😂😉

Keep us posted on the happenings. 👍

Well, I'm still alive... and married, lol! She wasn't/isn't exactly thrilled but we're getting things sorted out. We hit the 25 yr mark in Oct.

I've ordered All ***** tapered steering bearings for it. Way back when I got old yeller, that was the first mod I did, primarily because it had a 12 o'clock detent in the factory *****. And I've been shopping for MCCT's. I want APE's but I really don't want anodize red on the bike. So I may go Kreiger.

My son is apparently getting his permit tomorrow so I may need to get off my **** and get those tensioners sooner rather than later. Back story to getting this, I always told my son he'd get the Hawk if I ever got another bike. I've had the Multistrada for quite a few so he's been itching. Might be time to hand it over... and the thought of being without a Superhawk was just too much. Then this popped up, so here we are.
I will swap swingers so I can retain the brace. And more than likely the Ohlins shock, M4 full exhaust, ASV levers, Heli's, the A-Tech carbon front fender, the Corbin, what else? Plan to buy new chain/sprockets, drop in the DMr springs w/ new fluid and get steel braided lines all around. That's the short list.

Things that will be up in the air. It came with a Givi hard case and mounts that I will probably never mount. If I want to tour and rack up miles, the Multi is the steed of choice. Not sure on the Microns yet. They are absolutely cherry though. I have a replacement D&D that needs cut down to match the one the was waisted on my track day incident. I'd like to get those put back on the yellow bike for Andrew. F4i shock will go on it too.

After 40+ years with SWMBO, I've found it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

So you'll ride Big Blue? Very clean! I have enough spares including frame and SA for another VTR including 2 more engines. I'll never sell it though my bad neck means it doesn't get ridden much but having surgery this month so....

SWMBO says when they curl my cold lifeless fingers off the hand grips she'll clean me up and get me into my full ATGATT before rigor mortis sets in, flip down the dark tint face shield, set me on the VTR, and cast us in a big block of Lucite. Indicated she'd keep us in the living room as a conversation piece for new suitors...

(SWMBO = She Who Must Be Obeyed, Rumpole of the Bailey)

BTW, if you want to sell me the Givi case and rack, LMK.

I have the Ventura system with 2 bags and racks and can mount a Shad SH46 to the Sport rack but am looking for a cleaner install.

Rigor mortis isn't forever, so she should have plenty of time to give the VTR a good scrub too.

I'll definitely keep you in mind. Here a pic he posted of it.

Kriegers are set to arrive tomorrow. I'll for sure ride this beauty on occasion. I'm going to swap some bits over from yeller and probably sell it. My son isn't feeling a sportbike style for a first, which is ok w/ me.

Figures a Xichigan guy would buy a Blue moto

Beautiful VTR though

And that Givi is different from mine

And for the SO - I'll be 31 yrs in two weeks - she was the one that prompted the VTR purchase almost 20 yrs ago. I rarely ask for permission on anything, usually beg for forgiveness.

Happy riding

LOL - And I was in the Big House this year

I guess ya can't win em all - but I'm thinkin if Mr. Khaki lost again - there would have been a pubic lynching.

Keep those VTRs humming along!!

I made it there for one game too. Seemed like a special season so we made it happen.

Looking forward to swapping my freshly rebuilt (almost entirely replaced) Ohlins shock back on. After many years with it, the DMr just isn’t the same. Absolutely no negatives about it, just didn’t plan to keep it on so why put the miles on it (to get properly set up) knowing it’s fate.

And Ohlins installed.

Lost one of my reservoir rubbers. Had to improvise.

Had to remove everything except the front head pipe.

"Better dead than red."

I sing the blues and run when I'm yellow.

I have two fstest red 98s made within a dozen VIN

I'm likely going to sell the new 40k mile unit, or part it out even though it's in decent shape but keep the plastics, frame and running gear. Maybe the engine too as I have two spare motors and a frame and swing arm.

Congrats on the new to you Hawk! It's cleaner and has fewer miles than the one I just picked up. Mine’s a’98 with 20K miles. I just rode it home Wednesday….

Congratulations on finding a clean, unmolested example. The question is, how much money and time are you going to invest in trying to make it a different bike?

Not much trying to make it different, though I would like some more comfortable handlebars, but I do plan to improve it mechanically. I’ve already replaced the stock rectifier with one from an R1. Next I’ll be installing some manual CCTs…

Nice one (even though it is the least desirable color). I bought my first one with I believe about 13k on the odo. It sold with 33k and change. In that time I checked valve clearances twice and it never needed any adjustments. After the cct's and r/r, they are very reliable steeds.

We jest about color on a nonstop basis so get used to it.

So I scored a nice set of CBR1k forks, some triples, and... 6 spoke wheels. Issues I'm going to have to work though are 1, an F3 fr wheel with these forks and I will eventually need bars. Probably go Apex when the time comes.

Yes, issues. Axle diameter, bearing and seal inside and outside diameter and depth, bolt pattern and diameter and offset of brake rotor (I have a chart of those numbers for different bikes, if it would help), spacer lengths and diameters, distance collar (that's the tube inside the wheel between the bearings), probably some others that I'm missing.
You most likely know this, Partzilla has a feature at the bottom of the individual part that shows other models common to that part. Helpful when mixing and matching parts.
Daunting, but I'm sure you will get it sorted.
Post up your progress, interested in the details.

Lol, that would be a negative. Guess I’m going to have to buy a brand new CBR front fender in carbon.
