Tweety: I may have to reweight mine! that sounds amazing and i would have thought we were fairly close in weights. are you using lighter gas!!! My weight distribution was 52/48% I believe. I will try to reweigh in the next couple days for kicks - I would like to get 2 scales at same time but not sure I can find them.
VTS: much of the weight loss comes from stock exhaust (cans are huge, full system also heavy compared to the moriwaki titanium header). the front end was actually lighter with triples and forks vs. stock even though beefier. the wheels were another big change. rear hub and cush drive was like an anchor on the SH vs. the RC51 and even more so with the OZ wheels. Swingarm was actually lighter though braced, vs. stock. Rearsets. Lost passenger pegs and mounts. Rear tail section and stock seat and rear signals were another bit of weight. I did weigh things as I was swapping wheelsets and compare dthem to stock and posted a while back also. Oh, and I used lighter pistons - hahaha

You'd get 2 mpg tops... And then you'd end up in a hospital ward...
I get 40'ish with similar to above... But then I have fiddled inside my engine as well...

As for the overall difference in weight, Aluminum fairing stay and subframe does a big part of it, and then all he details adds up... Rearsets are custom, and lighter than stock... Actually the HID projector is lighter than the stock housing (it's hefty!) but add in the ballast and the difference is nil... I could keep going...

I don't buy all the pissin' and moanin' about mpg.
If you don't get 40+ mpg cruisin' down the hywy, you're VTR is out of tune.

Not sure how you are doing it RK1. Did you dyno the bike? Ignition advance?
+2 in the rear would make mpg worse.
I think you always ride downhill or something.

That is I get x miles of fun until I need to fill up... And in this case x remains unknown... Because it is accompanied by y2 amounts of throttle usage...Now get out a scale someone... Please?

Okay - I don't qualify as I have microns but I feel bad that this has devolved into a silly MPG debate. So I just grabbed the bathroom scale weighed the bike but was busted on my way back in! Now as I am typing my wife is BITCHIN... !!
My bike, digital scales, 75 miles on the odo so I'm about 2 gal short of full
Back - 204.7
Front - 224.2
Hope that helps if only a little
BTW - these are w/o side stand with me gently balancing doing my best not to impact the weight

My son and I went for a short 760mile trip this past week. He was on the SH and I was on the '07 Interceptor. I do not know what the mpg was, but when we filled up, we each took the exact same amount of gas, usually aroung 2.5 gal or so. The Interceptor is bone stock. The SH has been rejetted by the PO, runs great at all RPMs, but I do not know what jets are in there. Needless to say, we had a blast. JB

The only mileage problem I ever had was when I would ride too many miles and the bank would stop my credit card because of too many transactions in too many places.

Funny thing, that happened to me too. I still need to call the "fraud departmant" and say that it is ok. They make it sound like they care about me, but all they care about is the amount after $50 that they need to eat. JB

Well, duh... Post 12 indicates you only travelled north and south. Coreollis effect would have contributed at least 2-4mpg!
