VTS: much of the weight loss comes from stock exhaust (cans are huge, full system also heavy compared to the moriwaki titanium header). the front end was actually lighter with triples and forks vs. stock even though beefier. the wheels were another big change. rear hub and cush drive was like an anchor on the SH vs. the RC51 and even more so with the OZ wheels. Swingarm was actually lighter though braced, vs. stock. Rearsets. Lost passenger pegs and mounts. Rear tail section and stock seat and rear signals were another bit of weight. I did weigh things as I was swapping wheelsets and compare dthem to stock and posted a while back also. Oh, and I used lighter pistons - hahaha
I really don't think I have a chance, I still have many stk componets yet powdercoated, so with the wt savings of sans fairing and aftermarket exhaust I think I am coming back even with about 40lbs of powdercoating on the bike, HA! Maybe that is a reason why my mileage sucks. Bike weighs 563 wet, joking. I'll see if I can come up with a weight soon.

Chaos, I called you out, what is going on?

Not mine. With cans, a re-jet and +2 rear sprocket, I get 43-45 mpg at 75 mph hywy all day long.

If i ride like grandpa Simpson would I can get 50+.

Have you seen granpa Simpson drive?!

You'd get 2 mpg tops... And then you'd end up in a hospital ward...

I get 40'ish with similar to above... But then I have fiddled inside my engine as well...

I'm fairly sure the difference in weight bias is partly down to my SP2 swing being longer than stock, which puts weight forward... It's also ridiculously light, I think it was actually around half of what the stock one weights...

As for the overall difference in weight, Aluminum fairing stay and subframe does a big part of it, and then all he details adds up... Rearsets are custom, and lighter than stock... Actually the HID projector is lighter than the stock housing (it's hefty!) but add in the ballast and the difference is nil... I could keep going...

Gladly... $13 plus shipping... $4.50 buys and envelope & stamp, a trackable express envelope is $17.5, but that seems overkill to me...

Nah. You must be thinking of Homer, Nelson... or maybe Cartman.

I don't buy all the pissin' and moanin' about mpg.

If you don't get 40+ mpg cruisin' down the hywy, you're VTR is out of tune.

If you want more than 40+ plus mpg, get a HD with twice the weight and half the power.

Reminds me of my favorite South Park episode... (after the South West commercial)

http://www.southparkstudios.com/episodes/251889/

Well actually second favorite after the Tom Cruise/***/Scientology episode.

planning to go to stk gearing soon. Should help some.

Not sure how you are doing it RK1. Did you dyno the bike? Ignition advance?
+2 in the rear would make mpg worse.

I think you always ride downhill or something.

Nah. If you search and read all the mpg/mileage threads, lots of guys get mid forties on the hywy. +2 rear sprocket is a 4.8% reduction in final drive ratio. Even if the reduction in mpg was one to one with gearing (I don't think it quite is), that would lower a 45 mpg bike to a 43 mpg bike.

Hasn't been on a dyno. OEM advancer.

Mid 30's or even high 20's when riding hard isn't unheard of, but cruising on the hwy, mid 40's is probably the norm.

Yeah, lazn. I think that's just about right. My mileage drops to low-mid thirties riding hard in the local mountains.

If you are not getting low to mid 40's, you may have the same problem that I did (carb wear from aftermarket needles).

Mine is the same way. Then I also tend to ride at 5k and above. My record so far id RLOD at 75 miles but I have broke 40mpg once On or annual newbie ride I never took the bike over 3.5k all day and got 43mpg so I think it has a lot to do with how you twist the throttle.

I think you are right, I've ran out of gas X2 at around 90 miles each.

Yes, back to the weights and ratios shall we?..... Sorry gang.

Of course all the front end parts in one box, so on and so forth.

Can we even see some progress pictures, how do we even know that you even own a Superhawk?

Captain facade is more like it. (pronounced fa-sawd)
LOL I deserve that. I'm sure you're not the only one wondering...stay tuned.

Gas mileage?

How did I get here?
And why would I care?

I want to play, but I am here and my bike is there.

My bike doesn't have gas mileage... It has fun-mileage... That is I get x miles of fun until I need to fill up... And in this case x remains unknown... Because it is accompanied by y2 amounts of throttle usage...

Now get out a scale someone... Please?

Okay - I don't qualify as I have microns but I feel bad that this has devolved into a silly MPG debate. So I just grabbed the bathroom scale weighed the bike but was busted on my way back in! Now as I am typing my wife is BITCHIN... !!
My bike, digital scales, 75 miles on the odo so I'm about 2 gal short of full
Back - 204.7
Front - 224.2
Hope that helps if only a little

BTW - these are w/o side stand with me gently balancing doing my best not to impact the weight

My son and I went for a short 760mile trip this past week. He was on the SH and I was on the '07 Interceptor. I do not know what the mpg was, but when we filled up, we each took the exact same amount of gas, usually aroung 2.5 gal or so. The Interceptor is bone stock. The SH has been rejetted by the PO, runs great at all RPMs, but I do not know what jets are in there. Needless to say, we had a blast. JB

The only mileage problem I ever had was when I would ride too many miles and the bank would stop my credit card because of too many transactions in too many places.

I'm not sure what my F/R weight distribution was at the time.

Funny thing, that happened to me too. I still need to call the "fraud departmant" and say that it is ok. They make it sound like they care about me, but all they care about is the amount after $50 that they need to eat. JB

Mileage, mileage, mileage! Ha Ha!

Tweety wants to know what a bone stock VTR weighs. Most folks who post don't have a bone stock VTR, don't describe their method of weighing, and the info is pretty much worthless.

Mileage? If your main concern is fuel mileage, why did you buy a bike which can go 155 mph and clear the quarter mile in under 11 seconds? Why the **** are you riding a 1000cc sport bike? Why aren't you riding a 250cc Honda Rebel or a Toyota Corolla?

My first ever thread on this forum proved you can restrain your right hand and get over 50 mpg from a stock VTR at hywy speed.

Stop bitchin' and educate yourself. Or buy a frickin' 250 Rebel!

But I agree completely.

Well, duh... Post 12 indicates you only travelled north and south. Coreollis effect would have contributed at least 2-4mpg!
