OK, I gotta ask...

What is the deal with the little light above the headlight?

I think I've heard it called a city light in other forums, but what's the deal with that? What does it do? What is it for? WTH?? And what are other options for things to do with that light?

The manual calls it a position light. I always believed that it lets drivers coming towards you to know if you were leaning into a turn. But I have no clue if that is right lol I'm curious to see what others have to say about it.

Position light, huh? I found another short thread on it, not much info there tho.

I think the term city light came from another motorcycle that had a similar small light on it.

My girlfriend has a Toyota FJ cruiser, and it has an odd little round light on the back of each outside mirror. Lights up when the headlights are on. I dunno, that one makes me scratch my head too.

Yea, that's what the owners manual says, but it doesn't explain why it's there or what it's purpose is... I can't imagine what else it would do. I just threw a red bulb in there to match my bike lol

Well it's a light bulb that emits light when power is put to one side and ground to the other

In all seriousness though, I have read everything from it is used to help other motorists to judge distance/speed, it is used to help drown out the highbeam headlight so as to not blind other drivers (not sure how that would work) and also that it is used as a parking light in other countries.

You really could do what ever you wanted to do with it, not sure what you're really wanting to do to it but the easiest would be to grab a can of spray on headlight/tail light smoke from your auto parts store and just smoke the lens.

Handy back up light so if the main bulb goes you've got some form of front light. Perhaps Honda were fearful of the V2 vibes blowing main bulbs.

As an alternative fit a laser....

When I hit a deer in the middle of the night, I rode home 15 miles by that light. I had done the Dehnings Mod [sp] and have the smd dome light upgrade. Try that, it matchs a white headlight pretty well.

Yeah for sure I think its so when your headlight dies you arent totally invisible.

I found a halogen light that fit in it but was worried about the heat so did the 12 smk led thing.

I am shocked and amazed that anyone would ride without a headlight on ever under any circumstances. Yet somehow I see it all the time in the City.

Wicky, as you suggested that little light saved my a__ one night while on my way home.

As I was taking a turn I hit a bump and my main light went out. Scared the sh-- out of me. But I had just enough light fom that liltle light to complete the turn and pull to he side.

Apparently the connection somewhere in the wiring to the main headlight light had come loose. I remember going by feel and tracing the wiring. Got it going and headed home slowly. I went home and went over the wiring harness to the head light checking connections.

It never happened again after that, but I can still remember being in the middle of the turn and my headlight going out....

I take good care of that little light and would never think of deleting it.. JM2cents.
