oil and clutch fluid change

Its probably a dead horse but I didn't find it when I did a quick search. When I change my oil is it a must that I also change the clutch fluid at the same time? I can do the oil change with out a problem. I have never bled anything so I don't have the bleeder. I want to do the oil change ASAP but wanted to make sure I didn't have to do both at the same time.

no - they are separate systems. Have you downloaded the Honda VTR Service manual PDF linked in the workshop section.

All you need is a jam jar, hose and a ring spanner to bleed the clutch (add a large syringe to make it even easier).

A ring spanner is a box end wrench. An 8 mm. one, in this case. "Ring spanner" is the more poetic of the two names and is probably the term that Her Majesty would use.

Thank you I wasn't sure what a ring spanner is. I will download that manual when I get home.

yeah, the old fashioned way is to just open the valve at the slave cylinder, squeeze the clutch handle, close the valve, then release the handle.....about a hundred times stopping every once in a while to re-fill the reservior.

I never thought about the syringe idea. I usually just suck on the hose.

Just remember not to let the reservoir empty completly as that will allow air into the system. I keep on squeezing the clutch & filling the reservoir until clean fluid flows from the bleeder. An assistant would be handy for this job
