Heck no, i am not posting my fav rodes out on an open forum..
More Gap bad news. The Gov. will just take this and start patrol earlier.
I am going to try and get up there before June and ride the gap before the summer patrol starts. They are serious about running motorcyclist out of there and did a great job last summer. A sure sign of things to come is that the Gap store is for sale....

GATLINBURN, Tenn. (AP) - A fire blazing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was started by a motorcycle crash.
National Park Service spokesman Bob Miller said the fire had grown to about 10 acres by Wednesday night and would expand further Thursday while firefighters worked to contain it.
The fire began when a rider crashed his motorcycle on U.S. 129 in a winding area known as "the Dragon."
Miller said the steep and rocky terrain prevents firefighters from making a direct attack on the fire. They were working to contain it between the highway and the Topoco power line.
Officials said the motorcyclist walked away from the crash.

Well looks like I'm pulling out of this. With gas going up and trying to save as much money as possible for Indy in September I just not going to be able to make it.
I will be waiting a day or two before I cancel my reservations so if anyone would like to get a room let me know and we will see what can be done to get you in it.
You guys & gals have fun.

Damn, how much is gas where you're at? I'm not drinking beer for a while to lose weight, not save up for gas, lol! At least ride out there for a day with me, come-on! I figure about $25 for a day with fellow SHOG members is well worth it. And I'm contemplating Indy too, but being new at a job might squelch that.

It is not just gas but a whole slew of things. I can do it but I would rather save the money for the 5 days I'm going to be in Indy plus the guy that was going to go with me can't get off that weekend. I learned last year that my back and enjoyment factor do not like riding up there and back on the bike so, dare I say this, I would be trailering the bike. I still might show up but no need to tie up a room for a possibility. Also someone is wanting me to shoot a wedding that weekend. Money talks and if it goes through it's about $500 for a few hours of shooting and a day of photoshopping.

I want to introduce myself and let you know I'll be at the Dragon for the rally. My name is Dave Stewart. I live in Maryland on the top of the Chesapeake Bay. I have owned my VTR since July 1998. I just knew a Superhawk was the right bike for me and I would keep it for many years. Ten years later I still have it and enjoy it tremendously. She is fast, red, and still all stock except for the bafflectomy I performed 3 weeks after bringing her home.
I remember way back when I used to get the mailing list but I kind of lost touch with other Superhawk owners over time. I found this site recently while researching maintenance items for the old girl. I just did the front forks, new brakes, and new tires. She still rides as good as new!
Last month (April) I took a trip to Deals Gap on my own. I loaded the bike up in my van and took off. What an absolute BLAST! I hadn't been in the mountains since I was a kid and all of a sudden there I was with my bike on these wild roads with views that went on for miles. Unbelievable experience. I think I took over 150 photos.
The folks at Deals Gap were the greatest too. The food was delicious and reasonable. The campground was cheap with spotless bathrooms. The Dragon, Hellbender, Cherohala, unreal!
So after coming home and bragging about how nice everything was, the Wife and kids want to check it out. After I saw SHOG was meeting up in July I mentioned it to my Wife and she said OK! Let’s GO! (Did I mention I have a GREAT Wife?!)
We have a room booked at Fontana Village July 11-15. We wanted a place that had a pool and activities so the kiddies had something to do while Dad rides the Dragon. ( I did mention I have a GREAT wife, didn't I?) Then we are heading off to Pigeon Forge for 3-4 nights before coming back to Maryland.
I'm really looking forward to meeting other Superhawk owners and maybe doing some riding together. It will be great seeing the mountains again. Never thought I would be returning so soon! This might become a habit!

Dave,
Welcome to the forum. There are a few of us still left from the original email list. What was your old email so I can place you?
I'll add you to the list. It'll be great to finally meet you!

Thanks Greg! I can't recall my user name on the old mailing list and the emails are long gone. I think it was RunRowdy, but not sure. The off-topic discusion back then was pretty wild if I remember right!

I'm sure it was Email addresses. It would have been runrowdy@aol or @delanet or @fcc.net or @del.net or @prodigy. Might have been Stewy@... All I know is I still don't have high speed at home 10 years later!

Plenty of other great TN roads to ride if THP is all up there for the spring and summer.

Where to ride? Wow...where to start. Living in Western NC...I'll be able to be a decent tour guide if need be for many secret back roads and such. Hopefully my dad will have his Street Triple by then because he really wants to come along but not fall too far behind.

This sounds like a blast. I'v always wanted to ride the Dragon and the surrounding roads up there.
I will probably have to do the camping in a tent for $10/night kind of thing seeing as how I will have to ride my bike to the Dragon and that is going to eat into my wallet alone just for gas.
Hoping I'll be able to make it and meet you guys in person!

shog house rental
Hey guys, I have a house at Shular Lake which is the road directly across the street from Deals Gap Resort. I would be willing to rent it out for 125.00 a night. It is a two bedroom house overlooking the lake. Very private, secluded, and best of all QUIET!! So if you want the solitude, yet 1 mile away from the craziness feel free to contact me. It is my private home so I prefer to have either two responsible people or couples who will take care of my place. If you want photos I will be glad to send some. You can contact me at twesson13@mac.com

UPDATE
I was there this past weekend and spoke to Ben.
He asked that I post here to request all who plan to stay in the hotel at Deal's Gap resort be certain you have contacted him and secured your room with credit card or whatever personal arrangements you make with him.
Review this thread and the other one here to get all the details.
I have lost count of who is and who is not attending.
I plan to show up late Thursday night, still planning to shack up with Sgt. Rock.
FWIW - LEO presence is pretty constant now Fri/Sat/Sun, even running into the 8pm - 9pm times.
It ain't what it used to be.

Ok, here's my update for all you chicken riders. I just wanted all of you to know that I'm doing my part and spending every Wednesday night after work and going to visit the gap. I'm definately not as fast as I used to be since the accident and last night was the first time I've been able to drag a knee again.
I would highly recommend riding this beast in the late afternoon to have a nice enjoyable ride. The local Blunt county's finest finally left around 5 pm yesterday. Law Enforcement does have a presence everyday that last all day until about 5 pm. From that point on you should have a nice ride through there. BTW the Park Rangers are running radar on Foothills Parkway and the fine can be up to $500.00 depending on your speed.
I have to pull call the week of the get together and if my pager will reach I will definately be up there. My employer has adjusted my response time to 10 minutes so I'm really trying to figure this one out. Brian A I'll keep you posted on whether I can stay the night or not. It's going to be a tad uncomfortable to ride with a laptop but I'm sure I can do it.
