For those unsure, if you don't mind camping, you can always camp out in front of the hotel. I think it's $10/night.
Really a lot of fun. I have done it a bunch of times. You have access to the store, restaurant, bath houses, etc. just no room to crash out in.

BTW, I'd guess 7 hours from Bowling Green.

What type, engine, size, etc bus is it?

Truck and trailer... lol

I've got a truck mounted tent platform that folds over the bed, that i use when we go to the off road parks that typically have rocky terrain.. I could always set up... i'm used to it.. .

Well i'm not 100%, but will defanately try to make it

b) trailer parking is typically not a problem. I am assuming you mean a bike trailer or similar utility type trailer. A traverl trailer might be a problem.[Quote]

Yes its an enclosed bike trailer.

It is 1.25 hours from BG to Nashville and another 3.75 to the gap from Nashville...

I may be interest in the CROT camping deal. I would be bringing the VTR and my StreetTard CRF450R in my enclosed trailer and just camp in the trailer on air mattress.

I have been there many times, but never stayed at the CROT where i could make a run early or late in the day with out having to travel miles and miles to get there.

Well, the bus gets 11-12mpg, which pays for itself quickly with four guys going. Its a 38ft 66 passenger (only seats 8-9 now) that has a 5.9 cummins turbo diesel. It was a big yeller school bus, but legally you must paint them a different color, so its a blue and gray deal now. Its a 22-65 air conditioning (22 windows, 65 mph). And if we find a campground with wireless, it would allow you to load every days pictures to myfacespacebook account to keep all your chums, who are too stupid to ride, in the loop.

Bill, anyone else besides me expressed interest in "bussing" it?

They have a nice rock fire pit.
Individual campfires in the grass areas are no longer allowed.

As of yet, no. But I will keep in contact. I have some friends that I went down with, r6 and sv650, that will be interested. I am also going to add a hitch and trailer if I go over 4 bikes. I will talk to the others and see where we are at for our trip.

Okay, I'm in for a CROT room for two. If anyone wants to room with me I promise the wife and I won't get too freaky! I'm all about the "Deal's Gap Experience". I just hope the LE isn't as bad as it was last year (late in the year - SHOG 07 wasn't that bad). I generally like to ride the other roads in the area (28, Skyway, BRP) so we don't have to ride the Dragon all day. Brian did a great job of showing us some roads last year.

Brian, I'll give you a call.

I know Blunt county has already been approved for an extra $60,000 for more enforcement this year. BTW about two weeks ago the weather was pretty good and Blunt county parked past Tabcat and was nailing folks coming out of the final turn

Wonder if they will allow my above the ground Fire Pit. Leaves no sign of a fire. I just pack it and the wood in the Enclosed trailer..

I vote we take Condor up on his gracious offer to get a re-design of the rally shirt for this year. Sounds like a deal to me.

Hell I'm in.

Sorry for the late arrival. Just got power back the other day. Live in one of the counties in TN where the tornadoes hit hard.

The Deals Gap experience sounds good. Stayed there last time. Nothing like getting up at 6 in the morning, firing up the bike and straight out on the Dragon.

Bump.

Just to remind folks to be adding your name to the hat if you plan to go.
In a few weeks we'll need to get a list to Ben at Deal's Gap so we can get rooms reserved.

I'd think there are more folks out there who would want to go.

Brian posted on 2/7 that we have 2 weeks to provide numbers to Ben at the Crossroads of Time. The time is getting closer. Brian, do we need to call Ben with CC info and reserve rooms for ourselves? If so, is it okay if we post Ben's number?

Good news about Home Place, the restaurant most of us ate breakfast at last year - they are under new management and are doing renovations. Should be nice. Food was great last year but it was old looking.

In talking to Ben, I asked him about dinner at the restaurant Saturday night.
The restaurant used to close at 7PM on Saturdays.

This season it will be open until 8PM.

He said he would try and work something out for us to have a dinner there Saturday night, maybe go off-menu or whatever, if we are intersted.

I think it would be fun. The food there is good and the folks are nice.

Looks like even more patrol is slated for this summer, if it gets like last summer screw it, i will go ride on much better TN roads. Sucks that i am a TN resident and my own Tax $$ are going toward this excessive crack down. I was up there late summer and personally counted 13 THP in a six mile section of the road. 30 MPH on the dragon on a sportbike is like driving your car at 40 MPH on the interstate.

From the "Tailofthedragon.com" web site
"CURRENT NEWS:
TAIL OF THE DRAGON EXCLUSIVE – The State of Tennessee is spending more than $200,000 of taxpayer’s money to add overtime patrols at the Dragon this summer. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is receiving a $75,000 grant and the Blount County Sherriff Office is receiving $125,000. These grants will last through the summer and end on September 30, 2008.

In 2007 Tennessee grants to THP and BCSO for overtime totaled $120,000 and were in force from July 1 to September 30. During this period we witnessed unprofessionalism on the part of both agencies CLICK FOR COMPLETE 2007 TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL FIASCO. The outright harassment of law abiding citizens cost Tennessee businesses millions of dollars in lost revenue. THP’s reputation was severely blackened, a major detriment to all enforcement agencies. Tail of the Dragon received some 1,000 complaints from riders and drivers many who promised not to spend a penny in the state.

Hopefully this year Tennessee will provide professional enforcement that will encompass both safety and goodwill toward tourists. Tail of the Dragon will be reporting their attitude on this site.

Last year we personally learned the importance of documenting LEO stops on video CLICK HERE FOR OUR EXPERIENCE. We were cited for "holding a video camera while driving". Video proof that my cameras had no display showing resulted in a not guilty verdict by the judge. We recommend that you carry a video camera and turn it on when stopped. You will also likely get better treatment. For your information a LEO has no right to make you turn off your camera unless the area is declared a “crime scene”.

Please report your experiences with LEOs to us. Be sure to determine the correct agency, LEOs name, exact location, nature of the offense and the details surrounding the stop. There are many different enforcement agencies, especially on the North Carolina side. These include HP, SO, Park Ranger, TVA, Cherokee Tribal, Forest Service and Wildlife. We need to know who is involved."
