Next best thing to Penske/Ohlins?

Re: Next best thing to Penske/Ohlins?
May I mention WP Suspension
Same price category as Wilber and same Quality.
Also has High and low-speed damping adjusting.
Also check these files:
User manual
5060 extreme fork
My choise would be Wilbers or WP. Öhlins is just to expensive (for the name  )

hey guys i picked up a works performance rear shock for $799 shipped. Its either 4 or 5 way adjustable and its sweet. I say spend a little more now then spend twice as much later.
check out their site www.worksperformance.com and look for the Ultrasport 4 way and the ultra sport 5 way

I also looked at wiburs and when i talked to a distributor he said that there shocks needs to be worked on every 20,000 miles or so at a charge of $75 plus the time off the road and time it taks to reinstall it. i did not like that.
it road the cost up in my opinion and thats why i decided for the works performance.
I have had mine on for about 3 months now and what a difference. I weigh 300lbs and when i used to sit on the bike it would go down allot now it moves just a hair. And it is not at its hardest setting. I have enough to leeway to put a passenger on and drive off with no worries. not like before where every pothole looked like a trip to the proctlogist.
But I say **** stars for works performance.

Re: Next best thing to Penske/Ohlins?
All shock absorbers - Ohlins, White Power, Hyperpro, Penske, Bitubo supposed to be worked on even less than every 20 000 to be IDEAL
And ALL manufacturers admit it and recommend it if you really ask.
And most of those shocks have loooong warranty - my Wilbers did come with it (150 000 km) and my previous Ohlins too.
Warranty can be given simply because those makes will work better than stock even after 20 000, just not ideally.
Here is example for you: I never heard of Works Performance in Europe, does not exist here, over the pond. Does not supply any racers too. Now - turn it around. Same with some makes from Europe in US. That's old problem of business and geography
Does it makes it any worse? Don't think so - you are happy with yours, aren't you?
One thing for sure - all of those are million times better than stock.
And, BTW - I agree about White Power - it is another great choice.
Dutch guys seem to have cracked it about valves in shocks, their stuff really works.
Remember where from most ever famous F1 shocks came and who still are world famous "shock valves guru"?
IMHO if salesman or mechanic tells me to choose that particular make of shock because this, this one fully adjustable shock does not need rebuild every 20 000 to stay ideal IMHO he simply have no clue what he is talking about or wants my money, so - do not trust anybody but yourself!

But what i was talking about with the wilburs and i found an old email from the distributor here in the US and he said that the shock should be sent every 2-3 years back to them to be worked on(whatever it is they do.) he said approx 20000 miles or so this at a charge of $75
now i have not had any other company state that in there advertisments or when i contacted them. I choose the shock based on price, availabilty and the fact that it is on my 2 mechanics bikes 3 out of the 7 bikes they own have works(ninja 93, TL 1000, CBR 929) . They are not in the business of playing favorites they are honest and between the both of the guys they have about 37 years of knowledge . They choose it after they use it. So i figured if they have it and it made a difference for them then i will try it out. If i did not like it then i sell it. But i like it.

Re: Next best thing to Penske/Ohlins?
Aha!!!! I suspected it What a stupid thing to rename brand for different countries!
Could be, that explains why I never heard of Works Performance here.
Let me try word play then: Penske in Finland should be called....Pennske (with 2 n's) because otherwise it is offending all people named Pennske in Finland
Hey, we use here a bike polish called Black Magic - guess it is also called differently in some countries!
They could have called White Power just WP...

Jschmidt, what do you know about Hagon? I've seen their adds and they have a distributor where I used to live but I've never really heard anything about them. Are they comparable to WP, Ohlins, and how's their pricing?
And Woodman in superblings defense, you live in the south as well as us. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the name Wilber? Judging from your age in your profile I'm sure you saw a little movie called Deliverence!!

Oh, thanks anyway jschmidt. The companies aren't the same. WP is out of the Netherlands and is named for the founder Wim Peter. Works performance is a US company that manufactures out of Cali, I just got yours mixed with ours. There's also a white powers company named after the 2 brothers that founded that company.

Re: Next best thing to Penske/Ohlins?
I got a Hyperpro shock for mine & was blown away by the quality of construction.
Total cost was $945 (US) & included a weight matched spring.
It has High/Low Compression Dampening & 22 click Rebound dampening.

Obviously, by the look of your hawk money is not an issue. Nice details and what kind of swingarm is that? Dial adjustment and braced I...I..I...think I'm, damn now I'm going to have to clean my keyboard again!!!!

Re: Next best thing to Penske/Ohlins?
The swingarm is by JMC in the UK...its made from 7020 grade aluminium (lighter & stronger than stock)... Top bracing + Concentric Chain adjustment.... Also has race stand pick-up **** threads
Its also got, Ducati USD forks, Brembo Brakes & Marchesini 5 spoke wheels, Gilles Rear sets & Mario Nava full fairing with Carbon seat unit & front guard + underseat pipes

WP (founded by Wim Peter) and White Power is same company, White Power was used as brand name in 80s-90s for WP suspension because is white painted springs in shocks. Now all branded as just WP, but springs still white.
For two brothers story - I think you got it mixed up with Two Brothers company (mostly known for exhaust).
The hyper-guru on shock valves I mentioned known for Koni shocks, but he left his company long ago and I think still building shocks for F1. He practically invented shock valves engineering.
Ufff, I'll go get some beer and will be reviewing photos posted at end of this thread
