Newguy with a ? about 2005 'hawk

hey everyone,
I have a chance to pick up a 2005 leftover at a dealer, it has zero miles never been rode and has been inside the dealers showroom since they got it. the sticker said 8200 but they "knocked off" 200 to make it 8000. would this bee a good price fow basically a brand new bike? i did notice that kelly blue book was at 6500 but i would expect that to be on a truly used bike. Any insight?? Thanks.

I think it's very high, but thats what all dealers charge... it's also the reason I bought mine used with 6800 miles and not a scratch on her for four grand this past August.

I could have gotten two that were leftovers, actually, one was slightly used with about 600 miles or something like that for about 8000 dollars three years ago, both 2003 models.

8K still seems a little high. It's been in the showroom for 2+ years. They should be a little more anxious to deal. There are a few other threads surrounding price(s). Also check cycletrader.com (just found this: http://www.cycletrader.com/find/list...HAWK-87881917)
This may help in a better negotiation starting position. I would offer 6k cash and see where the conversation leads from there.

Also, may be worth while to check used. Be patient....I found mine lurking here for a while. '99 with 5800 miles for 2,500 with just a few minor cosmetic issues.

Good Luck!

its a now 3 year old bike, a model now about 2 years out of production, low popularity, essentially no significant model year changes since introduced 10 years ago, and its mid winter in a lot of the country. And they are not giving that much discount over original MSRP - seems high to me. If you are really averse to buying anything even slightly used, I supposed getting it for 7000-7200 would be a reasonable deal. Otherwise, if you start a search and are patient you can pick up a nice low mileage bike, often with some limited but useful modifications for a lot less, and these bikes are very reliable. You have a lot of options as a buyer in this situation. there is no line forming in front of this bike.

good to hear pretty much what i expected to hear and was thinking.it will be a good few months before i buy anyways so pateince isnt an issue. i bought an 02 sv650 a few years ago and fell in love with the twins. pops has a 97 hd 1200 sporty that i built. thats what started my affair with bikes actually. come april or may and ill offer them 6 and see where it leads. not really opposed to buying used. just that since this one has never been titled i would at least have some sort of warantee that would come with the purchase. there isnt anything bad that would happen to the motor as far as seals bearing or other stuff that could have been damaged since they never started it could there? they said its never even had gas in the tank and the battery isnt even in the tray.

I agree with them....I was looking at 05's before I settled on an 03. You can contact one of the members here Birdy, who was selling his 05 with 1k miles on it, still under warranty, with quite a few add ons, for less. Good luck with whatever you decide on.

+1

On the other hand, +1 on the fact that it comes with a warranty, and you'd be breaking it in properly... you WOULD be breaking it in properly, wouldn't you?

break it in like your gonna keep it forever is my motto. im actuall VERY picky about my vehicles. i went 300 miles over due on my oil change in my truck so i did it just about an hour ago in the cold wind with melting snow dripping in my ear. so yeah proper break in and all that would most likley be over kill how i do it than what the manufactorer recommends even.

I just paid $6500.00 for a leftover 2003 here in NY, and don't feel like i paid to much... I wanted to buy it cheaper, but just couldn't get the price moved much...

I did think about milking it for a couple more months to try getting the price down, but the problem with that is, people get W2's by end of January, and tax money is in hand anywhere from first week of Feb, up to April time frame, which is getting close to riding season.... Tax time is a good time for dealers, as people make cash purchases, and tax season's runs untill about riding season, which the beginning of riding season is good for them too...

While the SuperHawk was never the most popular bike they sold... A NEW $6500 sport bike, 1000cc vs smaller ones.. I would say that the dealers feel ok about having them, because if they have somebody who cain't afford the CBR's or Interceptor's, but really wants to ride... They have a lower priced alternative to push them in... I've always been in sales, so understand the value in having something cheaper...

Which thats exactly why i went ahead and picked mine up...

I would say that $8000.00 is not a steal, but not a horrible price either... But i think $7500 is probably more like it...

Good luck with whatever you decide

I bought a "new old stock" last March and paid almost 8K, but that's nearing a year ago. The dealer wouldn't budge a cent. After 3 months I had to replace the battery, and figured it was because it was on the showroom floor for so long. If you buy it, demand a new battery and fresh break fluid, etc. before delivery.

i went through the same thing. when i was trying to trade off my R6 for a hawk, i found one of the leftovers and they wouldnt come down one red cent. i said i have 6500 cash, out the door, and they told me no way. i thought 8K was super high for a bike you can get anywhere for under 5k in really good condition....so thats what i did, went and found me a used one with a couple thousand miles on it and already had the flushmounts and rumble undertail/front end mods, etc.....for less money i got more bike, in my opinion.

it really comes back to what you want... I personally didn't want another used bike, even if it was low miles... I set out to buy new this time, and spent more money to do that... I guess i wanted that feeling of knowing for sure what the bike has been through...

But yes, you can find these bikes in good shape, used for lots less money...

I bought a leftover new 05 in July for $6500. $8000 is way too much, at least aound here, sw PA. These bikes sold at a discount when they were current year models, because they just weren't that popular. If the dealer won't come down, let him eat it. For $8000 you can buy a brand new 07 Hayabusa around here. In fact, that was my debate back in July. The hawk was $1500 cheaper, and probably a little more to my liking. But, if it were $8000, or even $7000, I'd be on that 'busa.

So, if you really want it, stick to your guns, and I bet te price will come down.

here's an example of a more realistically priced, NOS bike

http://www.cycletrader.com/find/list...RHAWK-87881917

do some searching and you'll find lots of dealers with the same. I have a feeling there are warehouses filled with these. the info might at minimum be help in bargaining. don't know where you live but you should post your location - some members may know of bikes around or great dealers within reasonable driving distances.

Buy Mine

asking $4500 now. Nice mods, faithfully maintained, and in great condition. Never abused or ridden at high RPM.

For about $5K you could have in delivered to your door.

If you live fairly close, I could meet you halfway....

Where do you live?

$6999 out the door for a brand new VTR (2003 model year) at OTD Cycle Sports of Denver (Colorado). The listing has been up at CycleTrader.com for months.

That is equal to maybe $6250-$6300 for a bike with zero miles and a factory warranty.
