New here not to the Superhawk

How is it? My name is Mike. I've had my current and only Superhawk (it's a 98) since May of 2001. When I got it it had 1636 miles on the clock. It now has somewhere around 26,000 on it. I've got Two Bros. slip-ons, a corbin seat, and a lower fairing (can't remember the maker) other than that she's a stocker. We've had a couple of mishaps, but we get along great now. Mishap number one came the first time I ever rode in the rain. (did I mention this was my first street bike?) I made the 45 min. ride home just fine and got my building unlocked and doors opened and went to circle to go in the building and busted my *** in the wet grass. No biggie there a new left side fairing and we good to go. Mishap number two happened Nov. 5, 2005 My cousin and I were riding 421 between Mountain City, Tn and Shady Valley, Tn. Both of our first times on that stretch of road. He was on a 05 1000RR and I was on my Hawk. I came out of a right hander going into a left hander and not quite sure what happened but I ended up high siding and taking a short flight about 60 or so feet down the side of the mountain. I was only going about 30 or so when it happened so it was mostly cosmetic to the hawk. (the road was banked in the right and banked in the left so between the two there is a hump where the two banks meet and best I can figure between the right to left transition and braking and the road I did a shallow endo without realising it and leaned into the left with the back wheel in the air and when it sat down I was sideways which tossed me into a highside.) I got the worse end of the stick as I suffered a compound fracture of my left leg which took about 6 months to heal. (including a ride in the medivac helicopter and emergency surgery that night and two more before I got to go home from the hospital a week later, and one more surgery about 12 weeks later) I've got the Hawk in running condition now it just needed a right foot peg, right clip on, throttle assembly, and right front turnsignal. I'm running the cracked plastics covered in red vinyl and some dents on the tank as reminders, but other than that she rides great!

Sorry for the long first post,
Mike

Hey Mike welcome aboard. Geez that sounds like my broken left leg from a few years back...took me a year to run again. Hope everything's workin' well again. The one's we can heal from are a real blessing. Lots of great folks and info and help here. By the way that's a great looking shepherd they're my absolute favorite. Post up a few pics of the bike and the dog

Welcome aboard Mike. Sorry to hear about the long recovery. I had a 6 month recovery also for a broken back (not motorcycle related). The mind definitely wants to be doin' stuff before the body will let it.

It's the crashes I can't figure out that worry me the most. Wishing you better luck in the future.

It's funny I actually found it by chance. I saw a pic of a custom hawk on thsamba.com (a vw site) and started looking for the thread again and someone there said I should check it out here. Glad I'm here now tho. I'm wanting to do something different on mine. I was actually thinking of selling it. In it's current for its getting a little long in the tooth. but seeing some of the bikes posted here gives me inspiration for it.

If you have a '55 VW ragtop, the Superhawk is the best motorcylce you could own.
