So there is not supposed to be anything connected to that port? Do you know what the connection is that is deeper in behind there you can see 2 drips on it forming. I think that is the major problem?!?!

 

No, nothing on the top port. You can see in the pic that the casting is filled in. Couldn't flow anything unless you drilled it out.

There are two big ones that lead to either cylinder head, a medium that leads to the water pump and a small one that leads to the carbs. Also the two bolts on top hold the cap on which is sealed with an o-ring, which is another possible leak source. All potentially breached by frozen coolant.

Bottom line is there are five hoses, two connectors and an o-ring cap all jammed into that one unit

so for a suggestion would I be best to fill it up with distilled water and see if and where it leaks? Then fix and then refill with the Honda coolant I purchased?

 

i say pull the tank and airbox.
it looks after blowing the pic up to a larger size.
that it may be the line that is between thermostat and rear head.
if so just get in there and tighten the clamp.
it probably is that simple.
was it the rear head that was replaced?

also check your oil just in case.

95% chance you'll have to pull the tank and airbox regardless of what the problem ends up being. May as well give it a shot on the off chance you can just put the issue to rest right away and not worry about it. Could be a loose head hose clamp that opened up more after a few rides.

 

So when I pull the air box is there anything I need to worry about getting it back on???? I can't remember if there were any issues associated to it? Looks like I have my hands full again. Hoping it is just the clamp and that's it. It looks like it could be just that simple.

With the tank off can you get at the rear cylinder with out taking the airbox off?

Looking in the service manual now and it looks like it might be close.

Not very well. Depends on which hose or where the clamp is facing.

The box is pretty. Just a whole bunch of screws. All the ones around the top, then 13 more inside.

Front crankcase hose is not fun to re-attach though (top left looking down at the airbox). I attach that one first and then the rest of them...

 

A friend of mine let me use his radiator pressure tester. put it on the cap put it under pressure and it held for 15 min!!! Should I look any deeper or chalk it up to the fact that it was so cold this winter. -20!!!!

 

Was the bike warmed up prior to testing the pressure? I've seen coolant issues, where there would be a very small leak when the engine was cold, but when warmed up, the leak stopped.
If you tested it when it was cold, then maybe the leak is coming from the carb heater lines?

 

I don't believe I warmed it up before I tested it. It was 80 on sat when I tested. I didn't start the bike and warm it up before testing. I have since refilled the coolant and waiting to see what happens.
