michelin recall-pilot power/2CT

Has anyone had any problems with pilot powers? Michelin recalled powers and 2CT's last June according to their website. I knew nothing of this til I noticed an irregular line right of center around the entire circumference of the rear tire. It is also noticeable if you rub your finger across the line. Their is also a similar line on the front tire. I called michelin and they said that the recall only involved tires made in france and only front tires, supposedly 68,000.

My tires only had about 2000 miles on them when the lines appeared. Has anyone experienced or have any knowledge of this problem?

I've also seen this line in my rear tire. Maybe it has something to do with the dual compound? I have a front tire that needs to be replaced, but I haven't had time to do it.

I have the recalled front tires on my track bikes and have had no problems. I spoke with the Michelin rep at CA Speedway and he said there was nothing wrong with the recalled tires and that Michelin had to do this for political reasons (customs or something to that matter).

I love these tires!

thank you both for the get back.

I guess i'll just keep shredding them til their done. Glad to hear this because when you lose confidence in your tires, the enjoyment quotient recedes also and you just want to get rid of them as quickly as possible.

stay safe in san diego with all the fires.

superhawk22 is an unknown quantity at this point
Why would you put yourself at risk even if it was just a small % of tires that had actual problems if it's a free replacement? I have personally seen 3 tires that failed and puked thier guts out of the center of the tread and it's only the fronts, never seen or heard a rear tire problem. It's your call but I just don't see the point.

I agree, but my tires will not be replaced for nothing because they were made in Spain and therefore don't qualify. They only recalled made in France fronts and both of mine have similar irregular lines. Two dealerships looked at them and didn't think there was a problem, albeit neither had ever seen anything like it.

I'm thinking of doinga major burnout and quit buying Michelins. thanks!

I have seen that on two sets of tires of my own... One where 2CT's, the other one wasn't even Michelin's...

It's the edge between the different compounds and it usually contrast like that if you have been pushing he tires at higher than average temps (like a track day, going in a circle on one side...) because of the different compouns "sweating" chemicals in different amounts...
The reason you can feel it with your thumb is the same... different compounds... Even on a tire where you can't see this line, you can feel the edge of the compounds, try any 2 compound tire (with some miles on it...) and you can likely feel the edge with your fingers...

It's completely harmless and I can see no reason to stop buying Michelin's beacuse of it!

I had my front tire replaced on that recall and it was almost used up (trackday weekend!) without ANY problems... They didn't even question the fact that it was used up, it was 5 days between me buying it and them replacing it... So basicly I got a free front tire (I was back to get a new set when they informed me of the recall!)

thanks for the get-back tweety.

If I had the dual compound Michelins, I could understand the lines. However, mine are Pilot Powers, not 2CT's. That's what threw me off with the lines. I spend most of my riding time twisties because I hate that flat spot from center wear due to riding straight roads. My next tires will be dual compounds. thank you for your insights!

Doh!

Well then I have no real good explanation for the line, unless you have been going in circles on one side...
