Keep the SH or sell it?
OK... I REALLY LOVE my SH... my first V-Twin... and not real common to see them... LOVE the grunt .. but not as smooth as the 'sewing machine' inline 4 liter bikes to say the least....
Now here is my dilema....
A close friend of mine, which I commute with daily has a 2004 Limited Edition R1 ( black/titanium). He is deplyed to Iraq right now and I have his scooter in my garage for safe keeping and upgrades... and an occasional gaunt.
When he returns, he is ordering the 2006 R1LE and offered his 04 R1 to me at an UNBELIEVABLE price which I cannot reveal for sanity reasons.... lets just says its better than HALF the going average cost of 04's right now....
WHAT TO DO!?!?! Wife is OK with it... but I cant keep both.... BOOOOHOOOOO....
help me out here guys....thanks
Keep my head level in this decision.....

Damn, that's a tuffy!
But don't you do serious commutting mileage? I won't go so far as to say that that's a waste on superhawk but it would be for an R1.
You have time to save/make money to get it, wife's on board with it; I'd keep both! 8)

If there's anyway possible to keep it AND get the R1 do it. The R1 is a bad bike, but I know I'd miss the low-end grunt, linear power and sound of the Hawk. None of which you will get with the R1.
If a choice HAD to be made, I honestly think I would stick with the SH. And I DID make that decision a few months ago with my buddy's '04 Gixxer 750 when he was desperate to unload it.
Good luck with your dilemma!

1 for the track, 1 for the road! If it had to be one or the other, I'd pick the yamhawk. Ah sorry, I meant the supeR1, damn this IS hard.
Damn North and Superbling, all those posts in such a short amount of time. You guys need to get a life!

She easily sees the gas savings of the bike over my 3/4 ton 4x4 Burb... so that is the only thing keeping me on two wheels... now to convince her I need BOTH scooters...
maybe a new rock on the finger... hmm... nah... she has gotten that thing upgraded too many times in the past 15 years...

The power of the SH is much easier to use and control.

Re: Keep the SH or sell it?
Not yet... but I only pay $42 full coverage w/ $250 ded on the SH....
Now if the R1 is cheaper!?!?! Oh my.... it even gets better MPG than the SH.... choice is getter more complicated.
I guess I can ride the R1 for a few 140 miles round trippers again.. I've done it twice and I must say... comfort-wise... its pretty comparable... minus the V-Twin motor vibes... handling is MUCHO BETTER!!! Flickin that baby around is a SNAP compared to the SH....
Suspension on the R1 is much stiffer, but seems to absorb the road better and recover much quicker for some reason... I have played with my SH adjustments to the point I got it just right for feel.. but not as nice as the R1... either I get it too stiff and rides like a brick or its too spongy... got tired of playing and found a happy medium I can live with and I like it...
If the SH had the R1 suspension.. I would prolly not even give the R1 a thought to be honest...

After reading what I just wrote.... it sounds like I just need to drop a few ( meaning LOTS) dollars on a REALLY good suspension on the SH... sigh....

Re: Keep the SH or sell it?
I've always got some little voice in my head telling me I want some 600/750/1L RR bike. Then I go out for our regular Monday night rides where a bunch of crazy assed sport bikers meet and then go for a rip. Sometimes we swap bikes.
For me it boils down to this, in line fours are always pushing me to go faster to have fun and thats not a good thing. Plus I have yet to get on one that comes anywhere near as close to comfort as my Hawk with VFR bars on it. Not only that but so far no one has been able to lose me except on the freeway and my bike does 250kmh (according to the speedo).
I remember reading a post on here a long time ago where some guy had an RC51 and a VTR and the RC was for sale, not because it wasn't an awesome bike, but because he just rode the VTR 4 times as much.
If I was rich I'd have a Warrior and CBR1000RR. Since I'm not I have to settle for my Hawk
