intake cam specs

I re-call looking at a thread a short while back in which someone (RollingAlong I believe) provided some modded intake cam specs to use for adding torque to the engine without losing bottom-end and making the powerband too upper-biased(note: comment was made at that time that the exhaust cam was already decently aggressive and so an intake mod only was thought to do the trick) . Does anyone have access to this info?

I ask as I located as set of cams that are on sale kind of cheap and was looking at maybe picking them up for a re-grind if I can find some decent specs (not looking at paying big $$$$ for Moriwaki stuff). Call it another long-term experiment

cheers

Re: intake cam specs

Go to http://www.megacyclecams.com/ and download their pdf catalog. On page 37 are the specs for their cams and the stock specs for reference. Web Cam also publishes the specs for their cams. I believe RollingAlong had a custom cam made by Web Cam. He doesn't seem to show up around here any more.

I wonder if anyone has confirmed the megacycles published specs for the stock VTR cams. The exhaust seems a little hotter than I would expect for a relatively mildly tuned engine like the stock VTR. I also wonder if the stock exhausts could be substituted for the stock intakes for the really poor man's cam hop up. (I too have an extra set of stock cams.)

Re: intake cam specs

The early SH engines had different cams . 1998 only I believe . I'ts been awhile

You won't find what you need at the Megacycle site . I used WebCams and made my choice off a master cam list , not whats on their site .

I will be back later and post stock valve guide seal to retainer clearance , cam specs stock for early and later models and a couple ways you can go with buying one camshaft .

Might need to archive it somewhere though . I don't own a Superhawk anylonger and don't visit the sight much these days .

Re: intake cam specs

I need more time to find my notes on what cam lobe's' works with stock valve springs while still clearing the guide seals with the stock retainer but here are the two different Honda cams . These are the Superhawk , not the Valdero dual purpose bike .

in 249 @.040 .400 lift
ex .272 @.040 .435 lift

in 243 @ .040 lift .393 lift
ex same as intake

Re: intake cam specs

Funny this should come up now as I was just searching the same information ie: Is there a "drop in and go" intake cam grind that gives more bottom end/midrange?

Just checked my valves and its time for shims at 43,000 kms

I'm confused. Is the first set of specs for a '98 Superhawk and the second for later models?
I wonder if the stock exhaust (ex .272 @.040 .435 lift) would work as a hop up for the stock intake, or if it would be too hot. I also wonder about the spec on the exhaust. Have you measured it?
