well things are starting to return to normal. Almost every hose is out of me except one IV connection. I slept well all night last night and I can now focus on the computer screen where as before my head would swim so much I almost couldn't type at all. I starting to remember the crash some all I can say is I just went down... instantly front went out like it was on ice. Now this thread is worthless with pics, but I will get pics of the carnage up soon as they set me free from here. Thanks for the support everyone. Funny how when something like this happens and visitor after visitor come you find out how many friends you have. Its easy to forget sometimes.

As all others have said, concentrate on getting well and don't try to push it to quick. My friend had hand surgery last Dec. Doc's told him do nothing with his hand for 8 weeks. He didn't listen and was back working (plumbing) in 4 weeks. His is still having trouble with his hand. Take care.

Wow. I don't need to tell you that you are one lucky dude to have a thoracic spine injury like that and be doing as well as you are. Glad to hear you are mending. Take your time with it and we'll be thinking the best for you...and trying to keep you entertained.

Looks like the repairs are bodyshop perfect. Spine by Chip Foose right? I hope you're laughing so hard it hurts. The body heals quicker than the mind. As your body heals you will have dreams about it. It's just your mind sorting it out - make time for both events to happen. My (mostly) physical damage was healing or at least stabile at 12 months. My riding mentality took a little longer. Rest & Recovery makes for better riding later!

thanks guys the support encouragement and advice is all awesome. We will have to see what a week can do. I know with my previously injured cracked rib it was the difference between thinking it would take me a month to be able to play basketball and it actually only taking a week.

yeah I know a week won't do it but I am hoping it will swing the pain and stiffness far enough into the manageable category to begin returning to a few of the easier tasks of life. Like brushing teeth, and showering eating, being able to sit on the floor so I can play with my little girl some.
Oh great news I have neglected to share on accident. My wife and I found out on Wednsday we are having another little girl. Wed was the the worst day of both of our years mixed with some very great news. My wife is pregnant with our second and the doctors fear she could go into labor way too early (we are at 20 weeks) they told her she would have to be on bed rest for a while making it impossible to help me in my condition (which happened to be the worst on wed as well).
Honestly I didn't cry when I found out we were having our first girl, but this time with all the emotion of the day already I couldn't help but shed a few tears of joy. Which was of course welcome considering the rest of the day was spent shedding tears of pain and frustration, fear, and helplessness.
I just want to say while it seems appropriate that my wife and I are believers in Jesus being the son of God and have found strength in Him through this tough time. We have been praying and so have many of our friends and it truly has made a world of difference. We may be beat down be we are letting it do good things for us like strengthening our marriage even more and getting a chance to find out how many true friends we had that we didn't know where so amazing. I also wanted to just say I know a few of you on here prayed for me and my family too and I am very thankful God bless everyone.

Hi Andrew,
I'm really sorry to hear about your accident! I'm glad to hear you are recovering well though, and hope you are up and about as soon as possible. Just be sure not to push yourself too hard and definitely follow your Dr's orders.
Also... Congratulations to you and your wife on the pregnancy!!! I bet this week has been a emotional roller coaster for you both. My wife and I are only 2 weeks away from our first (a boy) and the excitement and nervousness are a bit overwhelming without something like a major surgery to deal with as well!
Feel better, and again congratulations!
Mike

Well, I'm feeling well enough to use the computer.
Andrew, glad that you are feeling better as well.
Looks like you got more banged up than I did. I didn't need any surgery. Lots of deep bruising. An evulsion fracture of the right wrist. Possible AC separation of the right shoulder.
I have been up and moving today. Eating lots of food.
Congrats on the baby. You're faith will carry you through this. I'll have my parents add you to their prayer list.
Olaf, Congrats as well. Being a parent can be trying, but it is so worth it. I wouldn't give up either of my kids for anything in the world, not even a Roger Ditchfield prepped race-ready Firestorm.

eric I wouldn't say you are in better shape just because I had a surgery. It sounds like you have a lot to deal with yourself. Family makes a big difference for sure. We will pray for your recovery too.
Its hard for me as a man to be ok with being so useless because of the crash I want to fix things I want to help my wife who needs so much right now. Thats almost harder than anything else right now.
Hang in there mate in a few months we will get to talk about facing or demons on the first ride after the crash , that will be more fun I think.

Andrew, I am relatively new to the forum, but have already learned alot. One thing I learned was that you are a man of outstanding character and ability. I was impressed that you went out of your way to volunteer to take on my swinigarm project before your accident. I couldn't believe you were messaging me back about it considering you had just been in the hospital. I later was fortunate enough to read the posts about the project bike you made for your sister. I couldnt help but see the amount of time and devotion you put into that project, and the joy I saw in the picture of you and your sister with your bikes. As with the custom bike being run over, all things will end up working out for you. Keep your faith, and remember all your blessings. I wish you and your wife all the best with your family and new addition.
Cheers, Walt

I was pretty bad off the first couple of days. Had the kids mother (I hate the term Ex-wife, since we're very friendly now) keep them away. I was in no shape to see them. They are here with me tonight, and it's a blessing.
I understand the wanting to be up and about. I had to swallow a lot of "manly" pride and ask for help, and am still asking for help when needed.
I've already spent some time thinking about that first ride. I am at the same time looking forward to it and having serious trepidations about it. It will happen, I will be back on this horse, if only for my kids, so that they will have the same sort of determination in their lives.
My mom had an idea. We should coordinate our first rides, same day or what not.
ATGATT. It's been said many times on here. It's effective. I am looking to improve what I have.
I've been looking at back and chest protectors here: www.impactarmor.homestead.com
Some stuff that is worn by MANY Professionals.
Rest up Andrew! I know I am.

I still want to do the swing arm for you. I am pretty sure as soon as it gets here it would only be a week or two at the most before I can try building it. Plus if you aren't in a hurry what does it matter. I love working on this stuff so even though there are two bike to fix I can easily squeeze in a swing arm or two, or three. I also need to raise some funds to rebuild the hawk with. Its best if I leave the regular income out of that considering all the medical bills that will be rolling in. So swing arm mods would be a pretty cost effective and fun way for me to do this. Cheers everybody.

its good to hear you doing better, congrats on the baby.take your time and heal.
i might be looking into doing the swing arm myself if i dont do the rc51 swing arm,so it will bring you a couple of bucks your way if i decide to.
