I have to ask...

OK... this IS my first Honda bike... and I DIDN'T buy it from a dealer, so I probally missed out on some sales pitch all about it, but...

WTF is the little light above my headlight for?

I've seen them before on hondas... and never really cared to ask. Now that I own one, I've been asked three times, and always have to do the little shoulder shrug with the dumfounded look on my face...

Re: I have to ask...

In some countries it is mandatory for a motorcycle to have a light on at all times. It will come on automatically when the engine is started.

So there you go, now you know!

Re: I have to ask...

I heard they were a parking light.
In Europe they require you leave the parking light on if you are on the side of the road.
THere should be a ignition key detent where you can remove the key & leave the parking lights on.
How do I know?
When I had my other motorcycle I thought I was locking the forks when I parked at work but came out that night to find I had left the parking light on instead & the battery was so weak it wouldn't start the M/C...DHO !
(Had turned the key the wrong way...one way was fork lock the other was parking light)

So.... what youre saying is the mothership HASEN'T been getting my messages????

Hummm... might end up back in Germany in a couple years... might be just the excuse I need to take the bike this time.

"But honey.... it's got the parking light already..."

Re: I have to ask...

I thought it was put there because too many cars run with one headlight out.
Having a light above the headlight helps separate us from the chimps in the cages.

Thanks for clearing up my misconception.

I really do learn a lot here.

Then again I have seen some things I wish I could forget.

Well that 'begs' the $64,000 question.....How do you turn this parking light on?

(I'm from California, tried turning key all the way to the right)

You're talking about the marker light above the headlight, right? This light comes on with the headlight. If it isn't coming on then your bulb is burned out.

I removed the bulb on mine and painted the lens cap red (from the inside).

Aha...Lo and behold, the bulb was missing. Previous owner took it out. Think I'm gonna pop in an amber bulb there in lieu of front running lights.

I have a super bright LED in mine.
More light is better.

Interesting. Where do you find an LED that fits the slot. What is the bulb spec number?
